Having to pay twice already for parking in trailer zone ( $146 each time)

I decided today to attach my hard working box trailer. What do you think ? Am I in a clear now or still risk of infringement tickets ?

Seeing as the sign says boat trailers, and yours is clearly not, I'd say yes!

Edit: and any leniency has probably been revoked due to previous 2 tickets!

Not so sure, as many windsurfing trailers may not be registered strictly as boat trailer.
Are they ? So should be they all fined too ?

Hopefully you are fully employed right now and not looking for parking cop position on Gold Coast.

It also makes reference to no standing/stopping except those with boat trailers, presumably to allow for launch and recovery, it doesn't provide any exemptions for parking with a trailer (whether it be boat or box trailer). The grey ghosts are going to slap you with another ticket if they spot ya!

I completely understand you trying that one Macro - and you get my vote for trying it out. Unfortunately the definition of it being a 'boat trailer' will be in its design, not simply because you can carry a boat in/on it. The problem is - as soon as you take your canoe out of it, it doesn't represent a 'boat trailer'.

Close, but no cigar.

Yep that is why I am very cafefull to leave the "boat" on the trailer all the time and go board sailing

Obviously I have two proper boat trailers registered with proper boats (electric catamaran including registered officially !) , but hauling very wide and heavy load every time just to prove my point is risky on busy streets and parking.

When you see other windsurfers parking on the street , needed to cross busy street carrying every piece of gear, then almost empty boat trailer parking, there must be better way to accommodate, all sorts of " vessel carriers ".

When you get the fine contest it and take it to court, then let us know how your argument worked out

I am trying to clear the air for all of us. I see everyday trailer with windsurfing stuff and even kiter trailers. One day all may find a sicker on the windscreen and it will not be funny. Specifically if we - do not stand up in the same line , just keep poking each other.

Your argument is flawed and you won't win it on the basis of that sign.

The sign is placed at the boat ramp and is supported by the solid yellow line along the kerb you can see in both photos, all of which denote 'no stopping' and is backed up in the City of Gold Coast parking bylaws (look them up, I just did). The exemption in the sign is for cars with boat trailers at the boat ramp, which presumably covers the short time required to stop and prep the boat for launch and pull the bungs out after recovery.

You're not using that sign to justify stopping with the 'boat trailer' at the ramp, you're trying to use it to try and park in the adjacent carpark, that won't work.

Elsewhere in the CoGC parking bylaws it does refer to the definitions of;

motor vehicle means a vehicle propelled by a motor that forms part of the vehicle, and includes a trailer attached to the vehicle.

trailer means a vehicle that is built to be towed, or is towed, by a motor vehicle, but does not include a motor vehicle being towed.

boat means any kind of boat or other vessel used or intended to be used, in navigation by water or for any other purpose on water and includes a boat or other vessel ? (a) whatever its size; and (b) however it is propelled or moved.

So, my take on that is that if the parking bays near the ramp are over-sized to accommodate vehicles with boat trailers then you might get away with parking there with a trailer if you abide by the signs and pay applicable fees, that's if you think your kayak, windsurfing rig or kite gear fits the definition of a boat.

You're best bet is to find the definition of a vessel in your state Marine and Harbours legislation, I'm sure that's going to be liberal enough to accommodate what you need.

So no, I'm thinking your argument is flawed and you wouldn't win but spending just ten minutes on google from the other side of the country with nothing but the information in those photos (I didn't even know what state Labrador was in ten minutes ago) has provided you a better argument to work with. Google is your friend, most of the time what you seek is there if you look in the right place.

Macro I think you are on a winner - the way you scribbled out your car and "boat trailer" rego plates means that if you don't pay the ticket they won't be able to find you.

Actually Macro, having another look at the photos, looking how the 'no stopping' yellow lines are used to denote the parking bays as well you are halfway there. You just need to read the parking bylaws to support your argument.

It will go a little bit like this ... You windsurfing rig is a vessel, your vessel is a boat, your boat goes on your trailer and you park in the no stopping area that is actually painted yellow parking bays, but you can park in the 'no stopping parking bays' with the exemption provided in that carpark for vehicles with boat trailers.

I do love the irony of a 'no stopping parking bay'.

Clear as mud?

But it won't work if your 'boat' fits in your car and you don't need a trailer. So for the kiters hook a trailer on and throw the twin tip in it

I'm not sure your kayak in the trailer will help, if your not using the boat that gives you the exemption then they'd argue its just a trailer with goods in it and you are parking illegally.

I just checked out the place on google earth, clearly it's a parking area and not a no standing zone.

Bad news is Macro... It's been done before, all be it with the roller on the rear end, I reckon you'd be safe with the roller. Then you could leave you Yak at home.

Wild idea... Why not just ask the local authorities BEFORE you get a ticket?

I can imagine this thread being tendered as exhibit 'A' in court.... "See, your honour, the collective brains trust on seabreeze said it was ok to park there..."

The problem is that our "collective brain" decided to pay infringements in advance. I can not use this thread to support our claim to free parking for windsurfers.
So I far I have 1 vote ( my own) against 20

Thanks , that will help a lot
2 against 19

In Melbourne I remember we stack on similar problem. Pay parking tickets at Rickets or Mentone. But solution was found shortly after and we bought annual permit that cost only a fraction what we use to spent

I needed to cover his ID too ( to avoid any accusation that I am biased )
