On the way to the river today stopped in at Spudshed.

Was treated to a great 'live' performance'. Far and away the loudest, most abusive language i have come across in three years at the shop.

25 year old woman and her 35 year old boyfriend were stopped at the front door by one very large security guy.

He asked her to empty her two private bags. This resulted in a torrent of aggressive abuse from her and the boyfriend.

Another teller then called on the mic for other staff.

10 minutes or so passed and the language was to die for three other staff protected the front door stopping them from leaving.

Exchange was like.....ive already emptied all my bags, there is nothing fing there. But the security guy kept insisting to her like 20 times to empty her last bag, which looked like a handbag. Her boyfriend was going nuts too

I then waited at the front door to see the conclusion.

Finally, she emptied her handbag which revealed at the very bottom a packet of three dollar unopened sugar sweets.

She then insisted they were hers, that she had brought them in to the shop.

Unlikely but possible

Could be checked with her receipt.

Left as i was late for sailing.

Not sure what the point of your story is Pete. Life is tough, we all have it really good?

I went to a supermarket today... the ol' bloke in front of me was price checking a few items at the end of his shop... didn't have enough cash to pay for it all, so he had to leave a basic food item (yoghurt) behind... once he had paid I said to the checkout operator, I'll take that, put it through with my stuff... took the operator a while to understand my simple request, but got the item scanned, bagged and I passed it to the ol' fella just has he was collecting the last of his bags...

Life goes on... I like to help if I can...

Point is you should not steal,if that was the case. Great entertainment allround.

Will no doubt find out in the next week or so if the Police were called to prosecute her.

Sure you can hardly wait pugwash.

I wonder what is the law regarding physically stopping her from leaving the shop.

She was trying to push him out of the way with her chest but he just stood firm.

Really? You should have called up a talk back station and complained about all the old people frittering away their social security on luxury extras! Wasteful and demonstrating a lack of work ethic. My goodness, if he had worked harder, he would have a holiday yacht by now!

Those stupid lefties giving away my money so that all those old people can eat yoghurt. Let them eat sorbet!

As far as I know, shop staff have no powers to search you or detain you. Police have the power with reasonable suspicion, but you are well within your rights to walk right past any shop bouncer.

Oh pete what a scoop!
In the scale of stuff that was happening around the world at that given moment the case of the missing jubes is nothing.

Ah really? So you are pretty much saying all those bouncers at Kmart, Target, Liquor shops and the like are there because these shops like to pay people for nothing?

They have the right within reason to ask people to open their bags and prevent them from leaving until the arrival of the police if they refuse to do so.

Shoplifting is rampant and businesses lose a fair amount of money every day. Can be something cheap or expensive, it doesn't matter.

I got told that by a magistrate. He said that all a shop bouncer can do is ask you to leave the shop. At the time, I was sueing a shop for a replacement bag after their halfwit bouncer had pulled the bag I was carrying off my shoulder, thus ripping the strap when I walked out of the shop after paying for my purchases

If you see someone stealing, **** what the magistrates* might say and do the right thing. Call them out on it so they don't keep doing it. Humilate then, video them etc but remember these ****s deserve to be shown no respect. Theft costs us all remember.

*The court system is weak as **** anyway . A well known Clarkson (now Warwick) thief has stolen from local businesses hundreds of times and the last time she ended up in court she was fined just $350...

If a sign is prominently displayed at the store entrance, then the store has a right to inspect a bag as it forms part of the customer's licence to enter the store. The customer may refuse the bag search conditions, but if they do so then the store may revoke the licence and refuse entry to the store.

If the store forcibly searches your bag, they can potentially be charged with assault.

In either case, the store has the right to detain the customer under citizens arrest provisions if they are certain that a theft has occurred. If they are wrong, they may face legal action for false imprisonment.

WOW\\

Happens 20x a day in WA. Pete what are you going to do about it?

MDSXR6T - not even court now. Its an infringement because there was too much of it......
WA - the State to steal easily and IF you get caught you get a fine that you don't pay because then they just suspend your drivers licence that you don't care about and you keep driving.
Court might be after many years of stealing and not GAF

You might have different laws over that side of country but we've got pretty good stature powers to effect a citizens arrest over here. Geez its even lawful to throw them in your car and take them to a police station if you're game; or stupid.

and Chris just beat me to it - different states / different laws.
even with the same laws - magistrates, courts, and police can still have different policies and interpretations.

Ya gotta laugh. Other day in Woollies at Narrabeen spotted two young girls about 14 to 15 sharing one of those big Dare choccy milks. As they wandered the aisle they finished it and then popped it behind some stuff on a shelf. They went to the checkouts to pay for the stuff they wanted. Just as they went to pay I put the empty bottle on the checkout and said to them "Girls heres the milk you drank, did you forgot to pay for it?" The look of horror was worth it. They paid and scarpered.

It's a large building clad in corrugated iron and in that building there's potatoes and other vegetable matter such as carrot, tomatoes, lettuce, in recent times they've gone all posh and added extra lines to sell, thus attracting thieves ,
sorry tomatoes are technically a fruit, yes they also sell fruit

Sit in your car outside Woolworths or Coles for an hour, not in upper class areas as it's no where near as entertaining

Anyone that doesn't have at least half their teeth, is using Paywave and keeps their purchase under $100; you can safely assume the credit card is stolen.

Spoke to the security guard this afternoon that was working on the day of the incident. I asked him what happened.

No prosecution. They just let her go after returning the item.

He said something like, she is not allowed back in the shop.

Shops have a right to refuse entry?

Fkn oath they can refuse entry, it's a private place with an implied right of entry for people wanting to shop when it's open. A lot of places where they have the same turkeys coming in stealing will do it with some sort of written banning notice which revoked that implied right of entry. If they re-enter they can get done for trespass, re-enter and steal theoretically they could get done for aggravated burglary.
