I thought I might give this computer "thingy" problem a try (not saying I am capable, or anything)
When was the last time you did allowed the computer to do a full software update?
Did you allow the computer to install all updates for all software and drivers, or did you get impatient?
I have a web client who emailed several times and constantly called me over one weekend until I noticed the missed calls (well you cant hear the phone while you are out in the surf), because their website had apparently stoped working and couldn’t be viewed…….. Not by them, they could see it fine, they were flustered because a customer was trying view the website and their computer was telling them that Adobe Flash Player needed updating. So they told my client this and my client was upset that I was not updating Adobe Flash player for all potential buyers!!!!!!!!!
It took some time but I managed to explain that “It is not a website problem but rather a problem for an individuals computer. I can’t physically update the software for EVERYONE’S computer EVERYWHERE. It was a simple matter of the client having never updater their Windows computer, to the point where it was no longer able to properly function outside of the home environment (online).
Computer software and drivers need updating on a regular basis to keep up to date with changes online.
You might not think it’s necessary because your system works just fine, but with just ONE automatic update preformed by your computer (for a specific purpose, like security or bug fixes) if you don’t update your system regularly, your system can slowly start grinding to a halt. Not saying this is the reason, but if software and drivers have stoped working since coming back from OS, then I would start here.
If this doesn't work....check that your printer is connected
If all else fails, chuck it out the window and get a mac.

You can access your Windows in safe mode ( press F8 when booting up ) and run restoration program to the point when everything was working previously - say week or month ago.
or try entering DOS mode. there on the screen you can check all the system basics. in particular things like date time stamp. press delete in early start up to enter into it.
worked for me many times when i had the same problem. kept happening so threw it out and bought a mac

I deleted a system font (I thought was unused) from my mac last week... try recovering from that!
1.- Recovery doesn't even work
2.- The downloading of recover does
3.- But the new recovery can only format/reinstall... but you can open a terminal, but you can't... sudo.

Yeah, get a Mac. When it doesn't work, you can cruise endless pages of forums of people with the exact same problem and no solution, or one that doesn't work.
Then just go buy a new Mac... problem solved!
You're vague about the details... could be more help with proper symptoms.
Perhaps VB MAN is a mac user and share holder, bad mouthing the PC

What a load. My HTPC has run win7 for just over 4 years, usually being on 24/7 and I can't remember the last time it crashed.
My upstairs PC has had hardware issues (bad DIMMs, hard drive) that have caused OS issues, but it's still running the same install of win7 since 2009. I don't clean it up and install all kinds of crap.
My Mac is slower, lags, hangs and crashes way more often.

Why would you do that? If it aint broke, don't try to fix it.

I think his modem keeps hanging up and he is having trouble formatting his floppies.

Did a site for someone and for whatever reason their windoze crashed (this was circa 1998) and reported an illegal function at some address.
Got a call from them threatening to report me for building their site with illegal software.

I refuse to pay for the update on principle... should be free, for The next 11 years - like XP.

He, he, this reminds me.
An elderly neighbours son once called me over to help with his mothers printer as it wasn't working with the computer. The mother poor old lass was frustrated because she had just purchased a brand new printer and low and behold it must have been broken because it wouldn't work with her computer.
I had a look at it and had to chuckle as she was trying to hook up a new printer to a computer that was over 20 years old (green text on black screen and big old cream monitor, kind of computer.... the ones that used printers with paper that holes down each side).
On explaining the problem she promptly stamped her foot stating "thats the problem with the younger generation, always throwing good stuff away, I WONT buy a new computer. It works just fine, its the printer that needs to work with the computer".
....and as far as I know, she still uses the same computer. All be it minus a printer! Yup, and she will probably still use it for many years to come.
I have a USB scanner of unknown age I got for $10... plug it in, no drivers needed, it works on:
Win95
Win XP
Win7
<div>Refuses to work, even with drivers on... you guessed it, MacOS X.
