So I was driving to work today and a black statesman caprice passed me. Fairly stock looking (quite luxury type vehicles they are any ways) with the exception of two small strange looking stumpy aerials on each corner of the bootlid.
But the strangest thing about this car was the fact that the number plate was some kind of government emblem (similar to Australia's coat of arms but it wasn't that)
Any ideas? What/who owned this vehicle and how do we have government cars without numerical number plates?
I've never seen anything like this before today.

If it looked like this, it was probably the Guvnah's car.

Being the No.1 boss, the Guv' is above all this peasantry level stuff like licensing.

Didja know the Govenor doesnt even need a firearms license, and can have any kaboomy stuff he/she wants, with absolutely no restriction!

It's no a government vehicle, it's THE government vehicle. And in reality she is probably the most law abiding person in the state, it doesn't do well for the queens rep to be sent a speeding fine.

Not bad, but my neighbours are putting different numberplates on the same commodore every few weeks. Some of which were issued on the other side of the country almost twenty years ago (the old green QLD ones).

Yeah, but if they don't need a gun license they probably aren't bound by road laws either.

And fair enough on the point of it being THE gubberment vehicle but wouldn't the gubbernor NOT actually drive the thing? Surely she has a driver?
I'd like to see a referendum on the topic.

I tried to find truth to the rumour she's exempt from the laws of the land but I couldn't find it. Might have a woman's look instead.

That's easy, there are other state and federal government agencies that provide for her security/driving and they do have exemptions.

The Governor General is a bloke. In March 2014, During Tony Abbott's Prime Ministership, Quentin Bryce was replaced.

The current Governor General is Sir Peter Cosgrove (former chief of the Defence Force).

This is his official car for ceremonies and to transport heads of state. A 1970 Rolls Royce. In reality it is probably only good for driving up and down the Driveway in front of Government house.

When the Queen visited in 2011 she chose to be transported around in a Range Rover instead.

[/b]Below is his car if he actually needs to travel somewhere for business. A Holden Caprice.

The number plates have no numbers, just St Edwards Crown. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Edward%27s_Crown

And we have a Governor also.
In WA, HER name is Kerry Sanderson.
If sighted in WA, as some above posts suggest, it is likely to be the Caprice with the crown plates that are mostly gold, and her in the car.

my neighbour has a similar car . when he drives his WRX with no number plates he makes sure he parks off the road so its only a shire parking offence, but when he drives around town he makes sure its all legal by using his set of yellow 6 reg WA plates (mid 70's). as long as hes parked off the road when the cops arrive hes fine

OK, now I'm confused,
If the G.G. and presumably, the Govenor for each state rate a "Crown plate" - would the W.A. coat of arms plate belong to our beloved Emperor
