My father sunk our family Jet boat doing something similar in Lake Congola many years ago doing something similar
Been there, done that.
For anyone thinking of giving it a try,. be really careful.
With an outboard, when you go over the top of a wave the prop pops out of the water and you lose all steering. The boat goes side on to the wave and then either rolls or the wave dumps it full of water.
Even running in the slop, the prop cavitates and you get very little steering.
If it's a new boat or something worth keeping, don't try it.
If it's an old boat and of no importance if you lose it,. well worth the inevitable consequences.
It's loads of fun though and rates amongst some of the best afternnoons I've had.
And the surfers complain about windsurfers and kites dropping in, imagine the carnage that thing would cause...
Yep Pweedas has hit the biggy of that video, a bit of cavitation and oops!
i guess no one has read the youtube comments re the keel that he fitted to that boat
Looks like he knows what he's doing and is having fun, I hope I'm as adventurous and foolhardy when I am his age .
Amateur.
At thirteen we used to turn the engines off. Once in a while you'd get this weird effect where the tinnie would get 'stuck' and you couldn't go straight nor pull off the wave, and water would start pouring over the hull into the boat.
Good times.
I guess this guy forgot to turn the engines (x4) off
That boat could use with some air bags
I particualy like the deployed ladder
Looks like he had plenty of horsepower.
We used to have a 6hp outboard on a rather heavy tinny that couldn't get on the plane, but on a wave it would. So it used to be very realistic surfing when we took it out over the bar and around to the surf beach. We couldn't out run the waves, so had to maintain good position all the time - was great fun.

I'm pretty sure that's a picture of the second attempt of the boat that sank at the Rottnest channel swim event a few days earlier.
They got there ok but even with the motors on idle, it still hit the beach at 50 knots.
Fortunately the emergency ladder deployed successfully so no lives were lost.
Dear oh dear,.. I spose I better add, ( now i've got RSI in my left eye.)

This is exactly what happens when your a steerer and not a driver
So who ever is reading this, ask your self am I a steerer or a driver. My brother a 82 year old truckie ask me ever time I see him
First thing he says

Most boat owners would have no idea what that even relates to
