I am amazed at how many new Mustangs I see on the roads. They are everywhere, V8s GTs.
Apparently in Australia are all sold out.
In US 10000 sold every month.
What's going on ?
And what happened to saving the planet ?
I thought every time when V8 turned on a polar bear would drop dead.

Don't know about the polar bears but they're a bit old fashioned aren't they? I hate retro car designs.

V8s don't have to be as thirsty as they were in the past. I don't know specifically about the Mustang V8s, but in theory you could come up with an efficient design that uses modest amounts of fuel.

It'd be nice if it were a 3 litre V8 with a supercharger. A turbo would be nice but it would probably take away that nice sound.

I am slightly puzzled by it's popularity.
The new shape is kinda cool, but it's not a headturner..I hardly noticed them until recently.. The numbers..
It seemed everywhere I looked I saw them coming down the road or parked.. Like the mustang invasion.

Exactly, many things have changed to make larger engines more fuel efficient. I recently replaced my 1998 Ford van which had a V6 with a 2014 Ford van, which has a V8. At first I hesitated because of the larger engine which I didn't really need for primarily windsurfing, figuring worse gas mileage, turns out I was wrong, it gets about 5 miles/gallon better mileage than the old V6 did.

Mustangs have been an extremely popular car ever since first introduced to the masses in 1964, the popularity has never diminished, even thru several body design changes, the loyalty has remained. To me it's not surprising that they have become so popular with your country also, whether you like it or not, Au. has many of the same social/cultural desires that the U.S. has.
It is also reflected in the ongoing, never ending Trump thread in 'heavy weather' section, so many ties, desires, and concerns that both countries share, so yeah, the Mustangs are understandably very popular in both places. And, we also don't throw an extra shrimp on the barbie.

I think a lot of the popularity is about the image of that car. People have grown up with the Mustang as an iconic car, and now its available here, people want something that stands out.

I agree, they don't really stand out unless they are done in a bright colour or have a loud exhaust system.

Not that everybody likes falcons, but the XR6 outsold the base model. Even though the changes were only cosmetic, people preferred the sporty look of the XR6. I think this shows that image means a lot to people when it comes to cars.

Not many driven by young folk mostly boomers who now have the means to buy their dream car good luck to them.
I remember when the new Monaro was put out early 2000's they were every where and now i would be lucky to see one, maybe they are on blocks in sheds somewhere or just not made to last.
The Monaro like the Mustang came with V6 and V8 but stopped selling the V6 due to poor sales nothing gives you a stiffy like the V8.

The supercharged v6 feels better to drive to my mind. It had torque from idle, whereas the V8 needs a few revs to get going.

The sound is obviously better in the v8 though.

Why else would you buys a sports car.? And modern design being what it is if it's not a 911 or a Mustang you're just going to look like a try-hard with no sense of style. But if you want to save the planet and attract the opposite sex there's the ecoboost 2.3 litre 4 cylinder turbo. The only disadvantage is it doesn't sound like a V8.

I'm sure i saw an Aurion highway patrol car the other day? They might need more power and torque but least they have the correct wheels driving

I must admit, after driving a turbo car for a little while, I don't mind the spooling sound. It'd be nice to have both, but that's not going to work.

I have a friend with a VW where they have active exhaust/engine sound. I think its only in the cabin, but it can make the car sound very good, and at other times very quiet. Maybe one of those for the Mustang 4cyl?

Perhaps a 4cyl Mustang with a couple of woofers in the back venting to the outside, to simulate a v8?

I disagree about the looking like a try hard comment. I worked out a while back that most women can't recognise the difference between most cars, or at least they seem to choose not to care. I am sure some women look at the car and can equate it to 'expensive', but I'm not sure they would know if it was a Mustang though. In the case of the Mustang, unless they have fixed up the interior it probably doesn't even look expensive.

They have their space and Australians complaining about an American made icon sounds like a ''short dicko syndrome''. What do you want?
The car industry can import LADAS if they discover there are enough short guys like you around here.

We don't have a car industry in this country anymore, so anything that complies to the import regulations should be allowed to come in. What is the problem then?

The mustang has its niche, and with the 99.9% of the asian cars looking like exactly the same the styling on the Mustang cuts above them.
The Asians make good reliable machines at a cheaper price, but in style their are still generations behind the Euros and Americans.

But now if I could choose, the New Camaro looks 200% cooler than the mustang. The squared Dodge Challenger SRT Pursuit is also better looking.

Do you guys see many Ford F-series pickups? That had been, and still is the #1 most popular selling U.S. made vehicle in the U.S.

Yes, we do have them, but they are typically only driven by little old ladies and female hairdressers. They just aren't seen as masculine enough for most people here.

Do you have anything bigger? A Canyonero perhaps?

I quite like the look of the new mustangs, ford america & europe seem to be kicking goals with most of their range lately. But those new mustangs do have a huge amount of wtf crash tribute videos to them & it doesnt seem to be just the drivers running out of talent.

For the last 12 months at least those in the industry have been raving about the ecoboost engines in the f trucks, just recently some not so good things but maybe that is just with after market tuners. Despite ford opening their platforms up for tuners (dodge's failing with the challenger) they dont seem to be the choice for big power 2000hp single or twin turbo v8's.

The monaro is dead, ok maybe holden re-badge a camaro but it's still a camaro & probably has more cred as such. The last gen monaro yes there are gts, gto, coupe4 & early number cv8's locked away but most succumbed to genIII/GM global issues or became powercruise or burnout cars for drug dealers.

I am a big fan of japanese cars, will probably carry a turbo rotary addiction for rest of my life but american cars are coming a long way fast in build quality, crash test (our monaro wasnt good enough to become a pontiac gto until the fuel tank was moved) & especially emissions control- california has been affecting anything that burns fuel there. All things considered a modern v8 with flex fuel, cylinder deactivation or direct injection is quite reasonable & the tree huggers can go choke on the high NOx emissions from their hipster diesels.

& really those with vans prefer them to normal car if they spend over an hour in traffic daily??? Im curious there as really trying to decide between a van or v8 daily/tow car sometime soon, unfortunately the budget doesnt allow an f-150 raptor

It looks good, but without the rear doors is probably not practical as a cop car.

Given that Ford tried to make a lot of its models look the same, the last Falcon wouldn't look too different to that, other than the extra doors. The falcon turbos seemed to be popular as highway patrol cars, so they must have had something going for them.

For all the criticism ordinary Americans get for getting around in oversized vehicles, if you look up the specs..... the double cab 4wd version of the F150, their top seller weighs 2100kg. Our top seller, the Hi Lux double cab 4wd weighs 2075kg. Not much in it.
And theirs run on petrol, ours spew out all those carcinogenic diesel vapours!
