Just wanted to commend everyone that called out this bull****. But also do it without breaking the rules of the thread again.
My mother started minding my four year old girl for a couple of hours here and there. The rule was firm and clear, we don't hit. She hit my kid then tried to keep it secret. Afterwards she claimed my kid DESERVED it. She will never see me or my family again.

Kim Jong Un is a child but I would hit him with a 6mm bullet middle of his forehead without hesitation.

In my childhood me and my mates tore all the fronds off a palm my mother inherited from her grandmother.

It was well and truly the worst walloping i ever received from my father. I never forgot why that plant was so important to my mother, and never went near it again. I think no less of my father for what he did (if anything i think more of him). It was a deserved and unforgettable lesson in considering others before doing stupid sh!t.

It shouldn't be done willy nilly. And theres a right and wrong way to do it. But i see far too many kids who don't respond to being told what to do by their parents. If the parents don't, someone else later in their life will, with less of a care for their well being.

I'm on the fence. As someone in their mid 50's I got the wooden spoon and belt and occasional backhand from my parents and received the cane once at school (I got pushed through a flimsy string fence protecting a newly planted lawn mucking around - now that was unnecessary). Looking back as an adult I recognise that it was a factor of my misbehavior and my parents not knowing a better way...

As a parent I do not remember 'smacking' our kids, however I do remember one occasion with my son - one I don't actually remember the event that triggered it (other than it being a case of him being naughty and being completely disrespectful to his parents) but I do remember snapping with my 10yo son and belting him across the back of the legs with my thong and him screaming out in fear as I raised my hand again - I did not sleep for about 3 nights - it made me feel sick and it's something that bothered me for a long time.

My son is now 22yo, 6'3" and 105kg... he does not get smacked very often! He does however know right from wrong...

20+ years ago when my kids were little you would still see parents smacking kids; now you never seem to see it... it's just not acceptable.

The headmaster for one of my sons explained his situation like this. Some kids will never do anything wrong and some kids will break the rules no matter what deterrent you give them. And then there is the majority of kids who sit in-between these 2 classifications. In the old days, the deterrent (up the office for 6 of the best) for these middle of the road kids, would mostly stop them from doing wrong. When this sort of punishment was removed, then a lot of these little angles didn't know where the line in the sand was and the crime rate went up.

Now I have 2 sons, one in each camp. The "goody 2 shoes" and the other. If both my sons had of been "goody 2 shoes", then I would have never had the same understanding of why people my feel the need to hand out a bit of physical punishment. 2 kids can be brought up with the same rules but need different deterrence.

Instead of blaming your mother, maybe look into the cause of the situation and not the result. I'm not into hitting kids either, but I don't like the idea of kids ending up in jail due to parents not realising their kids aren't angles. Kids have got to know where the line in the sand is, and the fact that your mother felt the need to show your daughter where the line was is really a result of your failure to do so. I'm not saying to hit your daughter, but it seem pretty obvious that you need to hone your skills on discipline before unleashing your daughter on society. God help the poor school teachers.

PS. Go and make amends with your mother or you'll be teaching your child the worst lesson in the world and that is how to HATE. There is too much HATE in the world.

The fact that corporal punishment could be administered if you misbehaved was more of a deterrent than the actual punishment back in the day .
Aside from the strap regularly at school ( all of the brothers had a strap) the only time I got a walloping at home was after my brother and I had a fight in the lounge a broke stuff.
Mum was mad and said she tell our father when he got home. She did and we got a belting.
After that a warning from mum she will tell dad was sufficient. Dad was a teacher.
These days we have kids as young as 12 stealing cars, stabbing people ,breaking into houses etc. knowing full well nothing will happen to them and they will be let out with a warning . We reap what we sow.

I see the results of domestic abuse daily. Many dish out a walloping for no reason. Crime statistics do not back up the view that society is getting worse. We are safer than ever but mainstream media have to sell advertising so have "shocking" stories.

I once got my hands glad wrapped to my face by my father and pushed over. I then retaliated and let fireworks off in his room whilst he was sleeping. That was followed by a couple smacks

Violence begets violence.

We know chimpanzees use physical deterrents to keep their clan in line, works for the alphas. The same alphas have also been witnessed eating their own offspring, not mention their own crap. Suppose it depends how far down or up the evolutionary chain we want to be considered.

if you're not into Darwin or sciencey stuff, maybe something from the all knowing big book to consider.

"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."
Gospel of Matthew, verse 26:52

Are we going to have one of these threads every time someone post a funny image that someone takes offence to or doesn't find funny? Whatever happened to ignoring something or scrolling past without making a moral stand and creating a song and dance about it.

"psychojoe" I suggest you scroll back through all the "funny images" posts, select the ones that offend your sense of decency and put them all in this one thread so we can get it over with all at once.

Its a talking point at least. As long as its not in the original thread, its fair for discussion. If no one wants to, no one will.

The last time i got smacked on the bum was when i was about 8 years old. While mum was dishing out some pretty good smacks i mustered up all my strength to hold back the tears, look her dead i the eye and say "oooh harder mummy, that feels good". Never got smacked again

Nah, it's easier for him to blame everyone else.
There's definitely some deep-seated issues here, very obvious from the way he has to have a rant about a 'funny picture' submission and felt the need to follow up by stating he'd foreverr broken ties with is mum for one smack on the bum.

He's probably one of those parents that gets offended when someone approaches him in public asking for him to control his children, after his 100th half-hearted 'come on now Sally, don't do that' as his kids run around screaming and causing chaos.

Only you Aussies would even consider using that flip-flop for smacking real children.

It's heel is way too fat, the wide point is far to far forward and the rocker line is a right dud.

Back in the day we used to smack kids properly, real smacks, not the soft mushy smacks you lot do. Do you even know what a real smack is ? I bet none of you have even had a real laydown smack.

I have been smacked by Peter, Paul, Mary, Mitch and even Lee and Dee. They were real smackers, whether it was at LSD, THC or ADHD. Right up and down the north-south coast and out on the islands.

Yeah, you Aussie's have your fat, wide thongs for your fat wide feet, but tell me, who these days makes real flip-flops like that anymore ? No-one.

I think your post says it all, some of us have morals.
I'm offended by the idea that your mate could laugh with you about the way he beats his wife and kids, and your only two options would be to laugh along or go **** it, and keep scrolling.

you could try not being such a snowflake.
everyone has morals (maybe excepting true psychopaths, but they probably still have some form of code) - it's just the point of the compass that differs.

i'm a bit on the fence - got some wacks as a kid - deserved it, no issue. each to their own, as long as parents have it in the best interest of the kids, and aren't masochistic or the psychopath type. just my opinion - may change if I ever have kids
