I hear about a new mine out east that would rely on Oakagee Port, as the product could never come thru Geraldton

Wonder if they would honour the old undertaking to build us a new artificial reef? Bet that's all forgotten - but we'll start a big fight again...

I'm sure it's covered elsewhere but does anyone know the reason why Geraldton port can't be used? E.g. not deep or big enough etc?

I have no idea why not an expansion of Geraldton port. They could build out to the NW as far as needed.

I think its more about the rail line being at capacity already?

**** the artificial reef!!! There's a perfectly good natural one there already. No need to go digging it up and then put more junk in the ocean to build a new one that will probably be just as **** as the one at Leighton.
what the **** is wrong with all these people that feel the need to destroy good places so they can build more artificial **** places.
While I'm at it they can **** off with their drilling in the Bight too.
Why can't they just leave stuff alone!!!!

If you read the MWPA Master Plan which is currently being circulated for community feedback, they do not see a need for a port at Oakagee in the next 30 years. There is a lot of expansion potential to optimise the current port, supporting growth from current 15 Mill tonnes/ year to 50 mtpy.

Best news I've heard for years..... but it is what the Port Authority thinks based on current info.

But it could change real quick if some mob wants to ship out uranium from somewhere about 300km east of Gero and suddenly the finances are there and shares go up, and greedy pollies and financiers get excited.

Ooops did that U part come out aloud

3 things
1) To get iron ore to Geraldton it will take 500km of rail sounds like a lot of money but it isn't especially when built by private enterprise, and yes marks correct if it's a shared rail between two commodities iron ore and uranium the costs are split.
2) Around and around we go, half a dozen times feasibility studies have been done , how much who pays etc etc,,, the really really really concerning thing is the precedent Adani has just set in regards to environmental waivers and free water and government funding on a federal level....... Some of the people or shall I say foreign government owned enterprises already have huge huge mine leases, if the common man on the street knew exactly how much land is already signed to mining lease which are controlled by foreign owned companies which are owned 50% or more by the government in n that country we would be starting a revolution ten years ago,,,,,, all I can say here is communism really gets **** done.....
3) Let's say one of these countries offered to build a deep water port facility that had multiple loading bays for big ships and only wanted to use one or two and give( hire back at a high cost) another two or three to the government for a long term lease than do you think our government would let them build a big rail way and access non mining lease or crown ( our land) land ........... of course they would.......

I work in mining and the noise around this project and a few others in the background is disgusting, where the money comes from and how we the people see no return....

lets take the gas for example ,,, our government gave it away, they reduced tax,, they didn't put in conditions to source products within Australia, they helped pay for the project and instead of getting 800 billion a year they get 800 million.
UAE exports the same amount as two plants up north, they get around 800 billion a year with price reviews every two or three,,, we get 800 million and offer tax subsidies and no price review ............... all for three thousand jobs which is really 1500 full time and the rest contract...
I think we may of been better off asking for 800 billion a year and no jobs....

On the same token something needs to happen to hold the government accountable for pissing away my kids and their kids future,, that something is not the ridiculous protests that have been running out across the country.... It needs to be done professionally and legally and with correct emphasis. The rent a crowd Antifa movement only pisses off everyone ,,, there are many many many people who want change and the government to be held accountable,,, yet in the same breath I do want electricity to be available and also need a car .
I like my aircon and eating steak so whilst I'm happy to make some adjustments to my life for the betterment of all, I think firstly
1) any mine in Australia should be 80% government owned with share options only available to citizens of the remaining 20% this ensures that resources are managed properly and even if not at least the money builds our economy and the people benefit.
2) same goes for gas

There is no place for a foreign owned company to be able to set up extraction of our resources and pay no tax and take more than Australia gets out of it.....

kinda what we did to Timor except no one wants to talk about what we have done to our own economy......
