Seeking some guidance on the repair of the rails on a second hand sup please.
I am wanting to put rail tape on before we take it out, but I'm thinking that it will need a sand and coat before the tape will adhere properly.

What products/method would you suggest to fix this? Damage appears to be depth of paint only except for a small dent in the nose.

The board is bamboo/fibreglass.

That's going to need more that a coat of paint, looks like it's had a big compression and then sprung back. How soft is it there?
I've no experience with bamboo, but I expect there's a layer of glass under it which has probably failed, allowing the compression.

You may get away with a layer or two of 4oz cloth over the damaged area, if it's not too soft. If it's significantly softer there than the rest of the board, I recommend rebuilding the rail

^^^ agreed

Its hard to say, unless you can tell us its soft or not.

But whatever you do - once its fixed don't use rail tape. It is bloody hard to get off when you ding it next time. All it does is prevent cosmetic damage from paddle strikes, and if you tape your paddle properly with electrical tape then it is adequately protected.
