Hey Doggie, was that an Echidna? I absolutely love that photo, it epitomises the tenacity of bull terriers.

I had a Staffie in namibia that got tangled up with a pocupine. ended up with a spine that went six inches under his skin. I only noticed about two days later when he was trying to get it out. The exposed spine was just noticable but when I pulled it out the length under his skin had gone all soft and mushy.

African porcupines are well renowned for their edibility, nocturnal and vegetarian, but very few predators will take them on.

They reckon a good porcupine dog is a coward, always goes for harmelss end of an animal. In the case of a porcupine the head.

Bull terriers don't fit in to this category!

if that happened to my dog i reckon i would be helping the poor bugger by getting the spines out, not getting him to pose for pictures

I bet he was VERY itchy after they did come out...and then the pain would set in...not a pretty thought

If you step on a sea urchin you woudnt tend to jump up and down on one I guess adrenalin to a Bulldog switches all the senses to DUH

Not a lot goes on between a bull terrier's ears.

They don't tend to feel pain like other dogs.

Don't feel sorry for the porcupine. I think he won!!

My uncle used to breed bullies. Yep they make a box of hammers look clever. Uncle reckoned the only way to get a bully to release the death/lock jaw on a poor victim was a digit up it's date! Never keen to try it myself but.

True or not?

Obviously a face full of spines doesn't deter.

I had one. I named him Kevin because I never met a smart person called Kevin.

If I whistled he would come through the glass door even if it was shut. Then he'd shake his head and try again. It would take about four goes til he worked out that there was something stopping him.

Throw him a tennis ball..... he'd eat it!
