I can't believe this. I can't see what they were thinking and i can only assume they possibly could be up to no good, considering how the article reads. Seems nothing will happen as they say there is no way to tell the boats details. Um the rego number might help

So it would seem it is OK to berley up for cage diving near where people also swim or surf....... or for authorities to bury a dead whale on a Perth swimming beach a few years back, creating a slick for years............... but this is dumb?

I don't understand what your saying Mark? Are you suggesting its okay

For me id say all those options you've posted are stupid and shouldn't happen. Mind you Cage diving in Australia is over 30 kms away from shore. Unless there is a Surfing spot at Neptune i don't know about

^^^ no I am saying how can the media report this as dumb but not give a flying fk about the other two glaringly stupid acts (that also attract sharks)

They probably believe that vending machines are more dangerous than sharks. There's nothing to say it attracted a dangerous shark. Sharks don't really want to eat people anyway. People worry too much. If they don't like swimming in the shark's environment, they should go to the pool.

Of all the people to be outraged...

Simple answer would be to cull boat owners

Should probably cull whales as well. They are killers.

That's a deck hose that bloke is holding in the picture. That's a deck being hosed. Happens on all fishing boats. Everywhere.

The cray boats do it. The wetline boats do it. The shark boats do it. The prawn boats do it. The scallop boats do it. The tuna boats do it. They have all always done it. The charter boats do it. Big boats. Little boats. Old Macfricken Donalds boats...

Journos must be getting a bit short of decent action for a flock of seagulls and a deck hose to make the news...

There is actually a law that they are not allowed to clean their decks close to swimming beaches. I guess the life guards must have been worried as they closed the beaches..

Same law extends to Grace town.. Oh well personally i don't like it when boats burly up around me when I'm in the water. If you have no issue with it thats your prerogative

They're not close to swimming beaches. They're out the back far enough that the coast guard with their binoculars couldn't manage an id on the boat. That's why it's called Mystery Boat in your tabloid link. They shut the beach because they're nervous, sharks are starting to eat people over there like they do here. You have seen 30 seagulls all go for the same two chips before, haven't you?

No, I don't like boats berleying around me when I'm in the water - the slicks coming off amateur boats bother me a lot more than a few scraps of bait being hosed off a commercial deck. Surprised you care jb, I thought you were the guy that doesn't think sharks are that big a deal. Your blonde Hawaiian mate strokes and cuddles them, remember?

Actually the boat was spotted by a councillor on a walk around the headland and he doesnt have a lot of boating experience. He even said it was about 6 m. That boat is clearly not 6m. The photo was not from any article. It was a shot of the offending boat. Apparently its known for doing it regularly by a protesting local.

As for the fisherman in Cowaramup well he washes his boat down on the mooring in the bay. Do you consider that safe Legally he is not allowed too either, but does so regularly.

Its called commonness but you seem to be hell bent on turning it into a slinging match again.. As is said if it doesn't bother you thats your prerogative.

Went fishing in the bay just before sunset. Took my home made berley which consists of a potent mix of tinned cat food, pollard and chicken fat. Let's just say if your thinking of surfing in the morning, don't.

Only "Some" people are just stupid???

I am under the impression that "Most" people are stupid and quite few people have actual intelligence.

It is a product of repressive revolutions and governments over thousands of years that once power is gained, the intelligentsia is eliminated to avoid threats to their power structure.

Wind is blowing strong isn't it.

A rewrite of your tabloid link jbs:

The NSW DPI has been called upon to investigate a commercial fishing vessel seen doing something, not really sure what but it appears to have been related to a deck hose attracting a large flock of seagulls at Bondi Bay on Friday.

A Councillor with a long history of instigating and losing litigation cases, who also has no boating experience according to WA's shark expert, jbs, spotted "about a thousand seagulls" near the boat and decided there was something dodgy going on. Although it is not clear why a shark alarm went off shortly after this, it did - perhaps because the councillor frightened a 12 year old surflifesaver into announcing the closure while the older boys were at lunch. Perhaps not, that is pure speculation. A thorough search by air and jetski failed to find any sign of a shark. Not even one partially-eaten-by-shark seagull appeared to be present in the vicinity.

The councillor and tweeting photographer who both witnessed the incident were in separate time warps, with one reporting a 40 minute delay between the birds and boat incident and the shark alarm going off; the other, only "minutes".

The beach was closed for an hour, although nothing happened, nothing was sighted, no one was harmed. This is not really a story, but now that you've read it, it is.

I'm not hell bent on a slanging match jbs. You just leave yourself wide open to a response.

Obviously that elected councillor is not blessed with much intelligence. The same has to be said of those that voted him in.

You aught to see what has happened here in Queensland.

The previous LNP government came in on a landslide victory, mainly on the promise of eliminating the mountain of debt caused by 20 years of the Beattie and Bligh led Labor governments.

The short memoried electorate didn't like the necessary tightening of belts and let Labor win with the narrowest of margins, dependant on support of the independants. What a farce.
