Forget the games and the screen time. Teach him skills that will last.

To be honest iky, not having a go but just thinking about it, I don't see how glueing and painting a plastic model is better for a kid's development than playing games. There's some fairly basic hand/eye co-ordination and patience/concentration involved in making a model, but that's about it really.
If I was going that way I'd at least make it something that they can take outside and run around with. Same price:

LOL!!!

As an anecdote to the GTA saga, my wife noticed a large activity log in the rumpus room on our CCTV system from 2am one night just after the "premiere". Checked it out and found our 8yo had got up, found the contraband game and proceeded to play until 6am, shut it down and went to bed until mum got up 10mins later....then emerged fresh and innocent. B)]

what an enterprising young lad !

That he is and it usually serves him well. Punishment for this little stunt was to take him and the game into the garage and make him smash it with a hammer. He then had to pay for it from his piggy bank.....wifey was not happy, but it made a lasting impression with him. A hit to his cash horde is akin to 50 lashes for him.

The CCTV is brilliant as a truth serum on the boys....anytime we think fibs are being told it's "shall I check on the camera?" suddenly they are fighting over who tells the truth first.......

Wow, that's a bit extreme isn't it?

So, to discourage him from getting up and playing a violent game, smash it with a hammer? Why not have him shoot it too

The CCTV idea is good until they learn to smash it with a hammer
