lou reed is spoken word. how that guy is a pop star beggars belief but it's hardly rock and roll. He and bob dylan are the most talentless singers round. At least bieber can hold a note.
Rolling stones - bleh
If you are talking proper rock and roll it would have to be something from the masters of the genre AC/DC or the Angels, and I think they havn't ranked higher on here purely because of overexposure on commercial radio. Half of the crap above doesn't classify as rock and roll

I hear what you are saying but Akker Dakker and the Angels are more where Rock and Roll went to than what it is.

Think about where it came from.

Didn't rock and roll start with elvis? and the beatles across the ditch. Hard to classify them as rock and roll now.
rock and roll means a different thing now. maybee not to you but you were probably old enuf to remember!
Anyway you asked for the best. for me the best needs to be timeless, and a lot of the stuff you are posting isn't.
Hard to think of any beatles songs you could classifiy as rock. while my guitair gently weeps maybee.

If you want 'the best' and it's old, then it nees to be timeless. The kinks are pretty timeless.
so is acadaca.
The original "we gotta get out of this place" is probably one of the most timeless also. would have to go close.
fortunate son - credence.
all the old vietnam war movie songs they play when they're in the heuy.
Cream rock also

Maybe this qualifies as rock and roll.

For me the BEST rock and roll song is the one being played by the band down at my local pub on a Friday night.

Good voice. Great tits. Not mangling the guitar too badly. What's not to like?

Best Led Zep song of mine is Ramble on. Best rock though has to be ACDC.

Got to agree with you Gorgo. I Think this cover of Seven Nation army is great. She just needs a good sound recordist to set up the mic's. I'll volunteer
