After an unfortunate delay due to poor weather, WAKSA and the event convener Tim Turner are very pleased to announce that the 2011 Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton Kite Surf Race will be held this Sunday, 18th December 2011.
Participating kiters will have received an email in the past hour confirming their place in the event and event details.
Whilst Alex Caizergues and Rob Douglas won't be competing, this means that L2L 2011 will most likely be won by a local kiter - so who will be the first kiter home this year - a West Aussie or someone from over east????
With a steady winds forecast, it's looking like it will be a sensational race on Sunday.
Come on down to Leighton beach from 1.00pm for entertainment and to cheer local kiters home. The race will begin at 2.00pm - what time will the first kiter get back to Leighton - will it be another 24 minute crossing this year???
WoooooHooooo it's on baby. With some of the pro's gone home it's an open race. I can't wait for it. See everyone at the Ferry terminal. It's saying it's about 15 knots but the tempreture is 27 degrees, I have a feeling it might go to 20 to 25 knots. Personally I hope it blows it's tits off. I'll start dreaming tactics from tonight.
Anyone want to buy my spot? wont be able to make is back from over east.
PM ME
Thanks for all the work put in! see you next year..
What size kites are you all using for the race?
Who's got the biggest balls and using a 15m plus kite.
might be a stupid question, i apologize, but what if there is an easterly? does it become the leighton to lighthouse race? or do the contestands have to tack upwind (that would be a massive job haha) or does it get cancelled?
it'll get cancelled again neptune. possibly for good i'd guess (until next year) too much organising. but it'll be on like donkey kong!
Seabreeze is now forecasting ssw 20/25, graphs are different but they always are. Booyeah Mo Fo's we're gonna be fricken lit as. Someone could set a new record.
Don't understand all you mature men with your posts, get a grip!!!!!!
your lucky enough to get a spot, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if the winds in the right direction..................enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out of curiosity, what is the criteria for selection for such a race

If so, it's favouring those with big depower straps
