Hey tightlines.
How about some paintwork on one of these.
Run the distance L2L acouple of time might free a couple of spots.
Don't understand what all the fuss is about, its a ****ty ride through washing machine currents, its a jolly-up not a race, perhaps waksa should think about turning it in to something worthwhile for charity imo
Hey spreader I can tell you it definitely won't be some jolly-up. I know of a few guys that have had custom race boards made just for this race and others are looking/modifying/buying right now.
I think RACE day there will be a fair bit of interesting kit on show.
Im not in, now I know how it must have felt like when you were a kid and got picked last (or not at all) for a sport team.
If anybody got in and can't do the race, please let me know, happy to pay and take your place.
ok so if i do get the email i gotta get a PFD. im thinking a wakevest? do these comply with PFD regulations? and has any1 worn/recommend one that works well with a harness? i'm thinking the 2 arent going to mesh well???
@ tgladman I am sure I heard the name gladman read out so unless there is another kiter with that surname i'd say your in, ya lucky bugga.
Anybody got the skinny on what kind of PFD is acceptable for the race?
Also anyone got a spare suitable PFD lying around I can use?
So Official Emails have been Sent Already....Just need to know when we will find out as havent booked flights...
yes! a simple yes or no would be good from WAKSA by now!! hey! tighty take a tape recorder next year to the draw and i will buy a few beers for results! i am sure you will end up with keg worth in the end !!
^ Yeah that would have been a good idea, I like beer.
I spoke to WAKSA yesterday (via email). I was told we would find out over the coming days. I'm thinking all is not lost yet. Afterall I'd imagine people lining up to gloat on this forum if they had received confirmation emails.
Dear all
All participants will be notified by COB Monday 31st October as to whether or not they have been successful in getting a place in L2L 2011.
Appreciate your enthusiasm and patience.
WAKSA.
I heard tell there were only about 180 names in the hat?
WTF. Who wouldnt
Maybe it was the shark issue ??? Whatever - thanks to all those who didnt enter.
My 2 cents
Kiters who are good enough to do the crossing in a good time and who registered last year and missed out and re-registered this year should've been given a better chance of getting a spot this year than those lucky enough to have done the inaugral crossing last year.
Seems fair to me
Just received the rejection email "NO CIGAR" "please come along on race day and show your support"
All the best to those that got a spot. GOOD WINDS & SPEED I HOPE THE EVENT GOES OFF
Look out for this in ur inbox
Ric,
Congratulations! You have a confirmed position in the 2011 Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton on Saturday 3rd December 2011.
Like I said,
(.Y)(.) sell publicity.
I bet if it was telecast live and there was heaps of (.Y(.) you would not tune out.
Only saw the inaugural race on Video but looked fantastic.
2 cents... Here is a thought...
Now the pedigree is established and most of the kinks ironed out -
With that much interest, I would try to aim for two heats -
The first for the serious competitor, and the second for the more social competitor and those just wrapped to give it a go.
Or by a draw as now - except you would still get to have a go in the second heat.
If I had entered I would be happy to just have a go as opposed to missing out.
anyway looking forward to the video.. hope at least as successful as last year...
Cheers
AP
Anyone else that got a spare PFD (for kiting) that could consider to rent or lending me during the race day?
If possible that person would be the first to get my spot if I couldn´t participate.
Congrats to all who got in. Recon the race could take all comers but selection makes it special. For all those who do it.........you'll be tired after.........dats for sure.
I'ld go an kite impact vest Ric - I used a North one for the last 12 months & last years race, any brand will do the job well, great for kite coarse racing offshore as well. I wouldn't kite more than 1km offshore without mine. Also a good idea on a surfboard in really big waves gives you a bit more safety when kiting way, way offshore in lite winds.
