After a topic about someone getting a fine for sorting out kite lines in an area that was banned because someone hurt themselves. I thought I would open up the can of worms on our government and powers that be. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sick of big brother enforcing laws that involve wrapping me up in cotton wool to save me from the big bad world. Any examples you can think of where your liberty, lifestyle, efficiency, and happiness has been limited this is the place to vent. I am going to start with a few that really bug me.
* the new INTERNET FILTER to protect us from nasty porn sites and most imporantly P2P
* Speed cameras fining us for going 4km per hr over the speed limit
* Banning motorcylcists from riding up the side of traffic in a traffic jam
* Putting traffic lights at roundabouts because some minority of tools cant drive (at our local they replaced an extremely efficient round about with four sets of lights, including lights on the merging corners that are normally turn left at anytime with care).
* Banning paragliding at the GAP - if someone wants to take the risk, let them, they aren't hurting anyone
* Proposed blanket ban on Noosa Rivermouth because a kiters might get hurt by boats, plus they might scare birds (yes, this was the arguement).
* Rediculous reduction in speedlimits on sections on the Bruce Hwy
* the list goes on, but my time is short..... Speak your mind Australia.
HARDEN THE FCK UP AUSTRALIA!!!!!!!!
Simply the government trying to interfere with nature.
Viva la Darwinism I say. Let Natural selection do it's thing and wipe the tards out of the gene pool.
D
Now there is talk of banning Vegemite because of its high salt content!!
Bubble wrap me big brother and feed me McDonalds!!
As for the new Maroochydore Rd roundabout!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
The lights aren't even in sync.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
"Lawmakers are proposing a new law that will not allow anyone to come closer than 100 meters from a dead whale’s carcass."
Would you want to come closer than 100m of a dead whale carcass?
Okay, let me get this right, you're complaining about the fact that you can't speed claiming the government is trying to wrap you in cotton wool?
Have you ever thought (this might come as a shock for you) that the government may be trying to protect other people for you? *waits for shock and horror at such a shocking thought*
Yes, thats right, the speed limits have nothing to do with you as the driver. They have everything to do with you as the driver endangering other people like
a) your passengers who may be too scared to tell you to slow down
b) your family who may be too young to tell you to slow down
c) pedestrians who you may endanger by driving beyond your limits
d) other drivers you may endanger by driving beyond your limits.
Incidentally, the 4km/h is not there to piss you off. Its there to cover speedo error. If you are 4km's over the limit, you are driving too fast.
And, as a motorcycle rider, I too lane split, but the reality is its damn dangerous and we shouldn't be doing it. Again, banning it is there to protect other people.
Just because you are breaking the law doesn't mean the laws need to be changed, its means your behaviour needs to be changed.
Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a regulation or whatever that manufacturers are allowed to make a car with a spedometer that is 10%+4 out..... meaning that in a 70 zone you could be driving a car at what the spedo says is 70 km/h and actually be going at 81 km/h.
you could get booked, yet to your knowledge you were going on the speed limit, and what makes it worse is that you have to wait like 4 months to get the ticket in the mail.
The speed limits are going down, and yet the brakes are getting better along with car designs. The reason more people are dying in car crashes is because there are way more people on the road than before.
I agree with the first guy, we are getting wrapped in cotton wool, though SOME (just some) of the rules are for our benefit. (but most for revenue rasing)
Mike
HTFU Saffer. If I am forever taking my eyes off the road to double check that I am dead on 60, and not accidently fluxuating to 64 then I am more of a danger to others.
As much as I agree with Saffer with relation to speed on the road (had my bike for 2 weeks now), I still reckon there are some 'over the top' laws and unfortunately in Australia we abide by the lowest common denominator.
I've lived in a few countries and Australia is BY FAR the biggest 'nanny state' - those I am comparing it to being England and South Africa.
Ok speedo thing is gettin off the Mark... but understand this
If the Police are meant too enforce the Law and protect us... then winge about speeding drivers causing Deaths !!!
Why dont they make a classy action Law suit against the Government on behalf of us & dead people for allowing cars to be built that can do 250km/h !
No ones interested in whats right or wrong " OBVIUOUSLY " its all about making Moolah.
Either at the beginning or end of any regulation (cotton wool disguised), someone makes money from it.
Official Gangstas in suits
Just an observation on speeding.....
Why is over 50% the speedometer in my Australian made car devoted to a speed I am not permitted to do anywhere in Aus except remote areas of NT?
Why is over 50% of the travel of my accelerator pedal never used?
Maybe there is a conspiracy between govt and car manufacturers for revenue raising?....
Government and those working in it are parasitic by nature and have only one interest, and that is to increase their worth through more regulation; rules create more jobs and more power, continuously sucking more funds from honest hard working people. As the economic climate continues to deteriorate expect more of the same. Our beaurocrats will struggle to justify their worth and existence by creating even more rules ....pathetic, but human nature I'm afraid. The end game is that the country goes broke.
True Saffer...........but my point and Ecos I believe is about the uncontrolled growth of regulation to the point being absurd.
The fun police......Dont get me started
They r everywhere ready to strike at the first sign of people having fun, they are usually over zealous greenies or fat politicians gerally people with no life so they feel they have to interfere in other peoples life's.
They are usually people with a very limited imagination unable to think outside the box of there own cotton wool experience in life.
Soon it will be illegal to fart in Australia without a permit
some of my pet hates:
* no bush bashing or motobike trail riding in forestry
*No Horse riding in forestry because of the impact on the tracks
*No jumping off bridges
*No spearfishing at my favorite spot because the grey nurse shark needs protection.
* Proposed blanket ban on Noosa Rivermouth because a kiters might get hurt by boats, plus they might scare birds (yes, this was the argument).
*getting parking tickets when there is nowhere else to park because they took away the parking spots that used to be there before.
*Having to wear a helmet on a bike
*having to wear a seatbelt
*Australia becoming more like America
etc etc
There is lots of crappy laws, too many for the council/cops/authorities to enforce even if they wanted to.
If they are or create a new rule, it usually because they received a complaint from the general public, which most of us fit into that category.
If people stop complaining and worrying all time about what other people are doing, we wouldn’t be living in a nanny state.
A few crappy laws that I don’t like
-dry zones, there’s no harm in a couple of light beverages
-park and reserves where I can or can’t bring a dog, not even on a leash
-can’t hit a golf ball at local parks, even a with a pitcher or wedge
-where I can or can’t ride a push bike, I don’t want to ride in the shopping mall, but there are many open public area’s bikes can’t be used.
-wearing bike helmets, even just to cruise down to the shops around the corner
-play cricket in some public areas, even if you’re using a tennis ball and only chipping it around
-there heaps more but I can’t be bothered
I understand that sometimes, with some people(idiots), that the above activities could endanger people.
""""""But I’m no longer allowed to use my own common sense."""""" by law
By the way if you get caught doing 64 your speedo is probably reading nearly 70, sometimes you just have to cop it sweet.
^^^^
Its probably a moron statistician working for the government who reckons that because there are twice as many drivers who crash exceeding the speed limit (being 60) that there is twice the chance of crashing if you're doing 65. Considering that almost 90% of people in Sydney drive about 5km/h over the limit I don't think they are over- represented. Don't fool yourself though, speed kills, but lets not be sissys.
The parking meter situation in some places is absolutely ridiculous, pisses me off to no end... anyone know how to make a thermite grenade?
"At 65km/h, the risk of crashing is double that of 60km/h"
Statistics........ Dont you mean the stopping distance.... better drive at half the normal speed in the rain then........
BLOODY bike helmets
When i go at the lake with my kids,i brake 3 laws:
dog should be on a leash
kids should wear a helmet
not allowed to feed the birds
guess what, it is not about to change
I thought I was in there clear - but there's rules in here that I've broken (often) without even knowing they existed! I'm an inveterate lane splitter (on a motorbike). I had no idea this was verboten. Lucky I don't have a motorbike license or I might get it taken off me.
Most cops will turn a blind eye to lane splitting unless:
1. You do it while traffic is moving
2. You do it on the inside lane where the bicycle lane is (sometimes)
Normally if you do it while traffic is stationary at a traffic light most cops won't give you ****.
