So there is an insurance issue, What would your best advice be to kitesurfers who essentially have their P plates? We as experienced kitesurfers dont know how much they have invested in lessons and the quality of their "instructor"or their mate.
my 5
1) as a beginner 50m is the absoulte minimum for safety, walk out a bit further so you can have at least 2-3 goes BEFORE your kite hits the beach, or another swimmer
2) Spend time on the wind window, and learn apparent wind, when the wind direction changes dont set up the same way. NW inPerth is a different set up to the seabreeze.
3) Use the depower strap. As most beginners buy one kite and use it all condtitions it is essential to know the wind ranges and NOT GO OUT. When you are at the kites upper range depower.
4) ask about local rules.
5)Pracitise self rescue and relaunching before the **** hits the fan. An essential part of kitesurfing that is often missed in lessons
When the bar is extended in normal riding it will turn your foward shoulder downwind and thats where youll go.
4) Dont buy cheap. get a kite that can stand a water impact and relaunches easily.
5) Learn self rescue and drop you kite to 1 line and practice relaunch
