Hi All
I was watching some snowboarding clips on youtube. It looked pretty epic. Has anyone been before? Is it a whole different kettle of fish to kiting??
I wouldn't mind trying it one day .
Cheers
Ummm, is there anyone other than you who hasnt been snowboarding?
Seriously though, it's great fun but not that comparable. In this country it means a long drive (or flight + car hire) to snowfields plus gear hire, lift passes, accommodation etc makes it a lot more expensive in the long run compared to buying kite gear and going to the beach.
Hehe....not that comparable. Not like you can rock up for a week and dominate hey. Thought that may be the case. I'll stick to the snowboard .
Been snowboarding in the Alps for most of my life and it's mad fun. Certainly on par with kiting imo. Snowboard Parks, Half Pipes, massive jumps, back-country powder all add up to huge adrenaline.
I'd love to try snow kiting some time too, esp jumping off cliffs with a kite connected an soaring back down must be unreal.
Go try try it out mate!
I actually learnt how to kite on the snow before the water...... picture me getting body dragged, sliding up and down a mountain with rocks, fences, hills and all sorts of other dangerous s*ht lying around.
Snowkiting is a completely different experience in my opinoin. Yes, the mechanics are the same, but you need to factor in wind shade between hills, kite looping to get up hill, tack lines (completely different if you want to get anywhere).
It's more of a cross country challenge rather than just mowing the lawn, but, you can do that too if you want.
You also need a raft of new gear - a foil kite, board/boots/gloves/jackets for the cold etc.
I think Chasta sums up snowkiting pretty well (i've met him in person, awesome dude):
