My go-to adhesive for these types of repair is actually a sealant: Selleys All Clear. Clean the area with spirit, spread sealant onto both surfaces, let it tack off, then press together. (Just like contact glue, but remains flexible & not so ugly.) Usually I just put a decent amount into the gap to be glued, press both surfaces together to spread it around, pull the parts apart for a minute or two to allow 'tacking off', then press together firmly. Any excess forced out of the joint can be wiped off with metho.
Apart from an old bar grip, I've used this stuff to re-stick EVA deck grip on boards where previous adhesives had failed, and it's still good after a few years of usage.
Hardest part was cleaning off old adhesive (sticky-back on EVA foam had turned to slime on one board, and on the other a ?contact glue? repair by previous owner had gone brown and powdery). But this stuff does stick even when prep isn't perfect.

Contact adhesive is what they use at the factory.

Just make sure you follow the instructions, it doesn't work like normal glue

I think some of the contact glue doesn't like our hot climate, and gets brown and crumbly over time. So far I've only ever had good results with the clear co-polymer sealant, which I've been using for many years now on many different materials.

Riggghhhhtttt..
Well ...
I can completely guarantee you that Tarzan grip and acetone will work and will be clear and water resistant

I put it on my valves and bladder & canopy patches..as taught by other repairers over a decade ago .and go three or four km out on them and it lasts for years..it welds
I am v intrigued on if it would work on that bar material (plse let me know)..but I wouldn't see why not ..it works on footpads..!

Plse note...sandpaper the bar and scuff it up..scrub with acetone (ooooooorrr...'nail polish remover with acetone')....then add the glue
Costs seven dollars max..
The ingredients of the two mixed together is exactly the same as other recommended glues

Also it withstands the heat

Goodluck!!
