The Good-
I've had an amazing 3 days kiting up here at Broadbeach, QLD. We've had some great wind and some really fun surf. It's been a steady 20-25 knots for the last two days and the water temp makes it feel like we're in hawaii... We're up here visiting from Sydney
The Bad-
I got a Gopro HD a few weeks ago and have been loving it! Unfortunately, today I was out playing in the surf and the camera ripped off the twintip and took the fin with it. I looked for it for a couple seconds but I'm pretty sure it just sank straight to the bottom (with all of my footage as well!).
Any idea if GoPro offers any type of "sucks to be you" pricing on a replacement?
Also, I need a replacement RRD Flow 5 fin. Suggestions on where I can find one? I know I can probably use another brand of fin, but the Flow 5 has a notch in the centre which was made to fit this board perfectly.
Really bummed :(
A guy today lost his gopro in exactly the same way ,said the bracket on the board snapped in half and the camera went straight to the bottom..
could be a fault with that component??
this has happened to me, the plastic of the mounts is 2 brittle. luckily i always tie a line around the housing and attach to a ring mounted above the adjacent fin like a leash attachment.tough luck
Should attach a Waterbuoy to your camera costs $25...as soon as an object hits the 1m mark a bright orange buoy deploys and brings back to surface last for 24hrs and can be seen at night up to 250m away...about same size as a car remote before it deploys
after telling us about the wind and kiting up there im thinking you probably deserve it...... bastard.
;-)
I made a mount out of chopping board to fix the camera mount to. This way you can move the camera around the board. YOu just need a long set of fin screws. Plus have a safety leash to the camera if the bracket fails, this is the important bit!
The safety leash is the ticket. I've had it on my board for a while and even if it came off the fin mount It would still be attached to the leash.
That's probable the only good thing about a leash attachment on your board.
But an "O" ring secured to the find screw will do too.
