Yes that's a spit. Its vertically laminated bamboo. so it splits easily before glassing. No biggy the triaxle glass holds it together when laid up.
Yes toeside usually is shorter. I decided I wanted it on the healside for better upwind wave performance. Now I've decided to run dual set foot strap option. So I can change the bindings depending on conditions. Ultra low wind, bugger all swell, long side heal side . moderate light wind with swell short side healside.
