1 do u think this is practical idea
thanks in advance . Russ
Good kite,
lots of power, depower and hang time, but not that great for wake style
But try and demo it
I am an XR3 rider. I use it for Freestyle riding and surf riding predominately. They are great kites. Lots of power, great hang time and easy to ride. When configured to surf the kite has exceptional drift down the line. It is a great all round kite but as dazed has said its not a wake style kite and Core do not advertise they have a wake style kite. Personally I would go a 12 and a 9 rather than an 11 I think the gap between the 17 and the 11 is probably a little too big and you will be overpowered on 1 and underpowered on the other with that gap.
XR3 rider here also, kites are great! They take a beating and the power and the hang time is really good, if you like boosting then this is the kite for you. The bar is also simple and easy to use, the only downside is that the kite pulls to much sometimes. I'd probably go for a 11m so can use it in a higher wind range, I don't use my 15m core XR2 much because it's not that fun in light wind.
Hey Russel,
The XR3's would be a perfect freeride kite for you. Very easy upwind and heaps of power and will help you progress to your first jumps. With your twin tip and sector combo and a 8m, 11m, 17m you should be able to cover anything from 10-12 knots to 30-35 knots. If you really want to cover high and very high winds better you will have to get a 7m + 9m +12m combo. I've used the 7m XR3 in 23 knots till 40 knots it's a great kite.
Gerrit who also kites at pinnas has the same combo with the XR2's 8m, 11m, and 17m - twin tip and sector. He's the same level and style of kiting as you so ask him next time.
Go for it,
Christian
Im in a similar situation as you, intermediate rider same weight and this summer I changed over my kites to Core XR (1 season old second hand) in 9/12 & 17m.
Best thing I ever did, finding it is a great all-round kite with a big wind range, this quiver has not let me down yet.
Not sure I would drop below the 9m on the bottom end. I use the xr kites on both TT and surf board.
Another happy Core rider, except I have slighter larger wheel weights, topping 100kgs, have an 8m GTS, 10m Rebel, 12m Switchblade 13.5 XR3, and 17m LW.
Wanting to sell Rebel and Switchblade replacing with 11m XR3 by choice.
Absol love hangtime on larger Cores
