Watched this bloke kiteing the alley last Saturday morning during solid Winston boomers.
Howling souherly, waiting for and shredding the biggest wave of the set. Only bloke into the waves with a kite and on a twinny.
Unfortunatly got dropped in on often by the jet ski crew.
The bloke is a legend.

Maybe all the manly surfboard riders were too chicken to go out!....

I'm yet to find surf conditions that a kiter on a surfboard can ride and I can't........ And i'm even weirder than the TT rider since i ride a mutant.

What are you trying to promote here bjw, that kiters should go out in conditions they may feel or is above their ability

If the T.V. news was reporting and emphasising it was conditions for experienced Surfers only, then I guess the same would apply to Kiters. I, myself have no problems in saying I kited the Broadwater (Flatwater) that day, remained safe and enjoyed it along with many other Kiters as well as guys and gals that usually only Kite out in the Surf these days. There is plenty of information about and particularly encouraged by Kiting Australia and all types of Kiting Instructors to Kite safely and to ones ability. This only stands to good reason IMO as well I'm sure for the vast majority.

Unlucky for the fella that got washed on to the rocks and punched out from his kite. thankfully it didn't hit anyone once it was released.

there was a lone windsurfer out there after that who was killing it. he was doing far better than the jetski crew.

No way. The last thing anyone wants is hacks lawnmowing good breaks.

But im sure there is a bunch of competent guys who just lucked out and missed it.

I saw light. Went to the light. The light was slappy, harsh, twitchy and boosted like ****! I went back to the dark side and having been grinning ever since!

Some shots from my area last Saturday, the windsurfer never got right out the back. I saw one kiter over the whole day get right out the back and some others who got close but had to beat a hasty retreat when mountain of water started to stand up in front of them. All were on surfboards. The only way over the mountains of white water was to boost, or use a surfboard. There were some big swims had by a few who ventured too far downwind and got caught in the dead air zone, the wind in this location is cross off. The photos do not really give a true impression of how big the waves were. The surfer had picked off a smaller wave and pulled off into a big duck dive and swim.

We got an awsome swell in poon, but no where near the size of down south! It was super Fun. I'm not sure I would feel safe in that swell On the GC that day, especially in boots!
