Hi every one some thing serious from me.
Have to bury a really good close mate today,
He was a cott man and a great lover of the water. He noticed a small spot on his head late 2011 and is know being put to rest today.
He admitted last Thursday that he ignored it for a bit and he new in the end that was a bad decision.
So please put on sun screen and a hat and if you see something a bit a miss get it checked out.
Was out at Dutch inn yesterday and i was one or two wearing hats.
Regards Ugly.
sorry to hear that ugly.
your post has shocked me into making an appointment with the doc. a small spot late in 2011 to gone in early 2013 scares the hell out of me.
I get checked every 6 months, usually around the beginning (before) of the season, then shortly after
do it
Makes you think!
how does one go about having this check done?
any recomendations? cost and time considerations?
The missus and our parents use molescan and apparently they are very good!
Condolances on your loss ugly :(
Appointment made. They appear to be busy as the first available time at my local clinic was 5th April.
Sorry for your loss. A very sad story
If in doubt get a second opinion. I am not going to bag any particular places but I will say that only a specialised place picked up the BCC I had on my face. I got the feeling the first place visited was just going through the motions so went for a second opinion. Luckily it was only a BCC which is the least dangerous form of skin cancer - point is if in doubt don't wait around until your next annual checkup.
Sorry for your loss. It's always hard to bury somebody.
I nearly lost my wife 15 years ago, small mole on her shoulder, she was pregnant at the time and doc said to look at it after the baby is born. My wife forgets about it after our daughter was born, til one day breast feeding my daughter grabs it and my wife suddenly remembers. Goes to the doc the next day. Three days later they are doing major surgery on her. She now sports the coolest zipper scar, but she is alive and well. The said if she had left it a few more months it would have entered her lymphatic system and then its hard to stop. Hard to deal with as we were new to the area and had a three year old as well.
We got lucky though, our story is still going...
Sorry to hear about your mate but I have a similar story and wanted to get he message home.
Im late 40's and have spent too much time in the sun. I had some little spots here and there, had them checked out by a specialist all good they said. Later on in the year at the local chemist and the checkout girl notices the little lump on my forearm and reckons its dodgy. I told her I had it looked at but she reckoned I needed a biopsy. Went to a different specialist and he didn't let me out the door, till he took out 2.5cm of my arm and then called me back the next day after the biopsy results. Melanoma more cutting and treatment luckily got it all but since then BCC's, SCC's the whole range. Visit the doc every three months and have done so for the last five years.
My advice get a good doc and go for a second or third opinion if youre in doubt about any of those little lumps and blemishes, saved my neck and yes I thanked the girl at the local chemist.
My first melanoma was less Han 3mm round on the surface, wasn't dark looked more like a babies milk pimple. Now I'm a zinc, long sleeve vest, surf goggles, may not look so good but you gotta do it.
5 minutes does not sound very thorough, take the advice from my earlier post or from the post by "Google" i.e. if in doubt get a second or even third opinion if you are not comfortable with the level of service. A year is too long to wait if something needs attention.
