I'm heading to France in July - overall for a month or more.

Where is the windiest kitespot in Europe / North Africa / Middle East at this time of year?

I want 25-35kts almost guaranteed, good nightlife a bonus (I'm a divorced dude on the prowl)

Tarifa sucks - wont even think about it. Everything else Ive researched and read about seems to be inconsistent and finding honest / non-biased reviews can be difficult. After spending a month in Ceara Brazil last September I know it's going to be hard to beat. But still.

Morocco? Egypt? Greece? Turkey? Sardinia?

Hit me with your best spots please.

Also, anyone been on a good charter yacht? eg: dragonflykitesafaris.com/schedule-pricing-2023

Morocco would be my choice.

Hurghada in egypt for flat water + nightlife, probably a lot of wealthy russians hiding out there

Turkey is awesome but the place is going to **** a bit

i would just head back to brazil but i guess that's not an option!

Thanks!

Essaouira vs Dakhla?

Will checkout Hurghada

Brazil is too light in July. Travelling to the other side of the world to be out on a 12m in 20kts doesn't fill me with excitement. But I maybe / hopefully going back there in Oct/Nov.

What sort of wind did you get in Ceara strength wise? Did you get up to jericoacoara. Went there backpacking before I kited. Sick little spot

25 - 35 knots guaranteed is pretty much impossible in Europe. Sorry.

Most of the windy places that have those speeds are weather front areas. Now 20 knots nearly every day is possible - with bigger winds occasionally. For the consistent wind you want thermal winds or trade winds - which both work in the European summer.

Your main thermal spots fall into 2 main categories. Those where the land heats up locally like Dakhla and Lefkada or those where the thermal wind blows from continent to continent like Mykonos (yes the same island famous for club 18-25 dance nights) or a few other Greek islands. Dakhla is going to have the strongest wind but its basically a creek with hotels on either side every 100m of coastline so its pretty busy. There's only one flat water spot - speed spot - though it is properly flat. Lefkada isn't that strong unless you gatecrash the windsurf spot down at Vasiliki. Go to Mykonos/Kos for cheapness or Dakhla for stronger winds I'd say

Your trade winds then fall into basically islands of the coast of Africa - Tenerife/fuertaventura/Gran Canaria/ Sal. Pick the water conditions you can live with as non of them are particularly flat. They all get a mix of nuking days and calm days but you are more likely to pick up a couple of 30+ days in the Canary Islands than anywhere else. My money would go on Tenerife as the bars are closer to the beach but its a busy old bay until the wind picks up past 25knots.

TLDR: Look at the canary Islands or Dakhla. More consistent wind in Dakhla. Stronger winds in the Canary Islands but it will be gusty.

Been to Turkey. The thermal spots don't blow that strong (20knots mostly). Barcares in France might be worth a look. They run Lords of Tram in something like May so might still be good in July?

Well I kinda lucked out. Everyone was telling me that last year was the worst season in forever. The rains stopped later than usual and it took much longer than usual for the wind to shift east. So I was on the 10m mostly. Some days 12m and some days 8m

Yes I went way beyond Jeri all the way to maranhenses. Wind is strongest at Jeri though, got some good 30 knot days. They had a big air comp at Tatajuba (little shanty town just past jeri) with all of the pro riders. 10/10 for vibe and I did hundreds and hundreds of kilometers of downwinders. (105km in one day was my record). Simply awesome.

Thanks weebitbreezy. I didn't think about canary islands before but will check that now. Tending towards Dakhla though... Looks pretty bleak on google maps! But i'm sure it has a vibe right.

As for France, yeah that south west corner gets the Mistral winds in summer. Basically southerleys that funnel between the Pyrenees mountains the French alps to blow from the Med to the Atlantic. According to my friend who is a local, it builds up over 3-4 days and peaks at around 25-28 knots, dies down the next day and then builds up again. I've seen people kiting on those long deserted beaches in the Camargue near Arles. With a car and an eye on the forecast, I'll be sure to check it out.

The west coast of Ireland, you can kite the whole coast. Cooler air, punchier wind. 20 knots is sweet, for a 9 - 12m kite.

Achill Island, Co. Mayo is a good spot.

In Ireland there's empty beaches everywhere, kite anywhere, 3 Kitesurfers is considered a crowd. Check out Keel, Cross in Belmullet, Dogs Bay Galway, just about any beach in Donegal. Dublin has a big crew on Dollymount (Dollyfoina).

You'll need a 4mm wettie. No booties, gloves or hood require coz it's summer.

Pubs and pints everywhere, that's where the craic is. If you do venture to Ireland, you'll be given a good steer and introduced to local groups from here -

Any particular spot in Fuerteventura? What is the wind like?

Re: Ireland. Sounds great! But not sure I'm keen on cooler air, cold water. I'm escaping Sydney winter! But maybe I could tie it in for a few days at least.
