At the beginning of next year I finish my job contract, and I will be taking a nice long holiday having not taken a long break from work since I left high school nearly 10 years ago.

As it is, I will have about 6 months off from Feb until I plan to start uni studies at the end of July, and want to visit WA for Kite-stock, do a few road trips up and down the NSW coast, head over to NZ again, and also do an overseas trip to Morocco in May.

I am however feeling a little greedy and am tossing around the idea of extending my time off and not starting uni until the following year giving me a good full year off. Are there any recommendations of places I can visit for regular kiting for an extended period of time and live on the cheap from about July until November? Not too fussed whether it's a flat water spot or a wave spot, although a mix of both would be perfect. How expensive is it to live in Cape Town? I don't drink booze or socialise so no money wasted there!

You could rent in a house share in Cape Town for about $350 to $500 a month, depending on what you willing to spend. Or you could rent a small flat between $650 to $900 a month.

You would need a car though cause it would be costly catching taxis, you could get the public transport but not carrying your kite gear.

It's a pity you don't drink or socialise? Cape Town has some of the best parties in the world.

Oh wow - 6 months kiteboading from Feb onwards? If it were me I'd be doing the west coast thing until the wind cut out !! From my understanding once the west coast scene drops out its then?? - maybe the far north (East) coast of Qld ?? - maybe a bit of overlap there.
Southern Oz in Autumn (Vic)is as we call it the 'doldrums' punctuated with occasional southerly (bloody cold) bursts from the south - so unkiteble to 7m stuff - with added cold!!

Drinking booze after kiting is mandatory in WA. Toad used to have a keg in the back of the cruiser post-downwinder.

But in all seriousness if it were me I'd be heading to Europe / South America / SE Asia rather than Kite Stock.

Well I was planning on squeezing out as much time locally as possible when the summer seabreezes are blowing, so I can save money for going overseas in winter. I have never been to WA so I would like to head over there while it gets consistent wind, and Kite Stock sounds like a bit of fun.

Once the consistency in Aus dies down a bit, that's when I want to jump overseas and checkout what there is on offer. I will wait until May to go to Morocco, and will probably spend a month there. So between March-ish and May is fairly open. I will most likely fit the NZ trip in there somewhere.

I have been looking at peru lately because it is close to the equator which means tidal shifts ,hence flat water lagoons .It also reported to have sick waves and the longest left hander in the world. It has
Cheap beer and living expenses means no drama taking that extra 6 months off.windy season runs from April to December.Argentina is not to far away if you fancy a snow kite too.

Tiree in Scotland also looks quite nice. Hire a camper and just drive around the island for a few weeks in March. Bloody cold though.

Fuerteventura in the canaries gets good winds in the euro summer, ie may to September. Popular kite spot.

Sounds like a great plan zarb! I plan to do something similar as i'm looking at WA from November onwards then SE Asia and then on to the Caribbean. Thinking a good 6 months off work should do the trick!
