Just want to say a Big Thank You for all those who have participated. Not only has this been a very interesting social exercise, and as I am about to present, the data themselves have also shown some very interesting insights about the profile of who we are as a group.
As this is just a simple survey, there will always be "gaps" and "incompleteness" about what the data shows, so we will just need to accept that this is what it is. What it shows, however, is a "flavour" about who we are as a community on this Seabreeze Forum.
Overall, there were 314 responses!! Generally the data quality was high. There were some minor anomalies with the responses to one of the questions below (you will see what I mean later......), but these affected only a minority of responses. And for some reason, only the Boys seem to have got it wrong. I have also noticed that there were some respondents who had responded more than once, with one particular individual responded 6 times. But I am only going to assume that he is probably responding on behalf of other people that he knows ought to have responded but who couldn't (so thank you), and that there might be other respondents who "Do Both" windsurfing and kitesurfing (so they entered twice to give two points of view). Overall these accounted to a small number. One spooky thing I noticed was that there were EXACTLY 157 responses each from the Kitesurfers and Windsurfers!!! What are the chances of that??
Unfortunately, the only way I can show you the complete story is by putting these into very boring looking tables - but I think they should be fairly self explanatory and I think tells a more compelling story. I will let you do the % yourself. I have left the data as raw numbers only so you get a real sense of the number of you out there.
Most of these are separated into Kitesurfer vs Windsurfers and Boys vs Girls. You will see what I mean.
Anyway....here they are. Enjoy your weekend!
Nice work PP
Good to see some data that's been provided by the people on the actual water and consumer front.
Interesting the "switch" statistics.
40% of kiteboarders and 60% of windsurfers think they're advanced riders? 5-10% would be more accurate.
Yeh I agree I think the spectrum has shifted as the pros have got better. What's your definition of advanced though? Interesting ?
In my mind it would be serious freestyles and those doing strapless ariel stuff. Also 40 knot megaloop jumpers maybe?
Man, I gotta pick a sport with more chicks.... netball anyone...
(on a nerdy note, ditch the tables, combine the guy/girl results as they are largely irrelevant, and use bar charts)
63 started out windsurfing and changed to kiting- 1 started out kiting and went to windsurfing , big difference
Bahaa haaa ssiss haa ha
Your kiding right
With such a small demographic sample compared to what is actually out there ...........
Makes you wish you were you were .......
(Less gumbies to dodge )ha ha haa did i type that out loud
No no Keep up the good work, don't foget to mention kiting is dangerous is hard to learn, expensive, helps to have gay tendencies, what about the sharks and windsurfing is heaps cooler
:Op
good on ya,,leave yourself open to critics of a survey result on a small sample..
doesn't suprise me that most like 15 to 25,,,,and girls are still sitting on the beach,, that hasn't changed much since puberty blues !!..go girls step up ..
Rating your skill level,, open to personal dreams / reality !!
My 14yo son, (advanced beginner) luv's a solid 25+ at our NQ local..
Different locations style conditions etc suit different kiters and your nerd work for those that are interested makes a good summary.
P.S Shark sighting, is that mainly a WA thing,,,or wave surfing any ocean beach break.
Bull sharks Syd / Bris bays .. unsighted !!!
NQ..ray's,stingers,crocadiles and sharks, tigers locally, turtle is their favourite dinner i've been led to belive..
Just something to throw into the next survey,,,why take the risk.............
What did I miss? I was out kiteboarding
Probably needed 4 skills levels, could of thrown in "expert" I'd say I'm advanced but far from expert.
Probably why number of advanced is do high
Interesting numbers thou either way
