Hi,
Looking into a trip to fiji next year, me the misses and a 1 year old. Has any been any were thats good for kiting and family friendly? Allso whats a good time of year for wind?
Cheers
I took the family to mana island. Def good for the family. Not so windy the week I was there but got 2 sessions in.
Fiji Beachouse on the Coral Coast. Kite straight out front family friendly . Our winter best time for wind there.
My favourite place ! I went to Malolo island resort and kited there in early April 2014 - just a little bit early for the trade winds and as such I I needed big kites 15m+. I think the season is normally June/ July onwards.
I recall BWS run their kiteweeks at nearby Namotu around August al that is a good guide. Normal conditions then are 15-20 knots 3 or 4 days out of 7. I'd go back to Malolo In a heartbeat, but a very popular family resort nearby is Plantation island resort which has a massive sandbar close by that you take a boat to and kite from there. If you want surf you are also close to Cloudbreak. If you want a no expense spared experienced then Namotu and Tavarua islands are the go. Bucket list stuff enjoy !!
Here's a couple of pics from mana. I'm kiting out just it front of the resort and swimming pool while the kids are in the pool.
If one side out the island is too windy for the family, just take em to the other side. 5min walk.
If I was hydrofoiling back then it would have been even better.
Does mana or malolo have various places to kite at walking distances? Also are there places that ur not aloud to kite?

I just kited straight of the beach by the pool. Nobody told me off.
They are pretty chillaxed there. Prevailing wind is S, Se, Though on the week I was there the wind was coming from the north!
It seems that the trade winds follow like a 9 day cycle where they get windier and windier until day 9 which is the windiest day, maybe 20 knots, Then they shut off for a couple of days and start again.
So it depends on when your holiday falls on that 9 day cycle as to the wind you might get. I would go over with the mind set that its a family holiday and if you get to kite one or 2 days its a bonus,
And also what are the common winds and directions,(may june). just having a sqiz on goggle maps.
The SE trade winds are May to October so if you are staying on the Coral Coast it's cross shore. Epic for down winders as well . Even on windless days you still get an arvo breeze.

Malolo is same as what Plummet has said about Mana - you just kite off the beach at he front of the resort. The only restriction would be no kiting at low tide because of the reef.
Anyone been to the island qamea?
saw this resort www.qamea.com/ and was wondering what the kiting would be like.
