Hello all,
Does anyone ride twin tips with small fins on there toeside edge and larger ones on the heel?? I had a massive elevator boosting session today after changing my fins on my gambler to the 5.0s. I came in super hot for a back roll loop transition and found the new set up really unforgiving. But I've never had height to my jumps like I had today I thought God was taking my up at one stage. Would love to know if it's worth trying the small & big fin.
Cheers
Hey PP,
I do, not for a very good reason though, i lost two of the original fins on my underground and replaced them with what was lying around from another board.
It depends what you're into but big fins on the heel side makes it nice and grabby for loading up, and then you can do some fun stuff on the toeside and let the board slide sideways.
Twintig was probably a good choice today, I copped some solid beatings with the change in wind strength on the surfboard, and mostly closeouts!
Being a mutant weirdo I use a strange combo of fins. From this picture I have ditched the big center fin at the bottom and also on the goofy toeside front green fin is now also gone.
I discovered there is no need to the goofy toeside for max boosting going backwards.Plus no toeside front fin makes it better when riding toesise down the line.
Green fins 50mm orange 58mm.
I rode for many years on a Shinn Wave (mutant) with a bigger fin on the toe-side rail. I think it helped with toe-side riding in the surf and for carving savage toe-side transitions.
My current mutant (Axis Twin Wave) has 3 big fins at the back.

I have found riding toeside on a twinnie slides out too easily on a wave so would bigger fins on the toeside help with that? I was using Custom cabrinha fins probably 15-20mm I think

The Axis Twin Wave has 3 x 70mm fins at the back. It comes with 50mm up front but I changed mine to 2mm up front. It doesn't slide out toe side on waves.
On the Shinn Wave I had a 50mm on the heel side rail at the back. Centre and toe side fins were 70mm.

yep. Get into 50-60mm if you want to hold stuff bigger bottom turns on gnarlier waves. And or more fins! my quad set can hold some rediculous stuff.
I use no toe side fins , dont ride toeside much......
just like the way I can slip and slide into transitions.
Cheers all!!
Thursday is looking good again so we will see gonna out the small ones on the toe side and see how I good.
Yeowwwww
