Hi,

Heading to Vietnam in December and looking for any recommendations for accommodation for 7days around Mui Ne or Phan Thiet. I am taking the family ( 2 daughters and wife, non-kiters) so needs to have the usual facilities of pool/s and beach to swim at - typically 3 to 4 star level. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Geoff

Contact kitesurfnam, Ian or Christina, have been living in Vietnam for a long while, a few mates from the uk highly recommend them , they had a big 4 page write up in kiteworld mag a few years back, looked the goods, hight of wind is similar to ours in wa,they can sort all levels of accomadation, they built a really nice place with pool , which may fit the bill, also kiteworld/ travel/Asia has a heap of helpfull tips on Vietnam from kiting spots to price of a beer, covers lots of questions, well worth a read imo

Grace Resort.

Small place halfway round to Mui Ne village. just up from the monster resorts. Good food options close by. Short taxi ride to anywhere else. I stayed there about three years ago.

be a good spot for the Mrs and kids. Nice pool. Family run place.

aussie owns a burger place just up the road when you get sick of pho.

... we went to Hoi An back in 2007, stayed at Cua dai Beach with walking distance to beach and had a great time. No one there had apparently seen kitesurfing before so we were rockstars. We had it when it was flat water sou'east winds but apparently gets wild and windy with big seas and gnarly around December. Like any place in Nam, its probably changed and gotten bigger ie more hotels.

To the original poster, we took the family 2008 and stayed in Tien Dat Resort, randomly picked cause it looked nice and was right on the beach. It was about half way along the main Mui Ne foreshore/beach so is still a good angle to the wind, kited straight off the beach out the front. There are cheaper and alot more expencsive ones but it was quieter. Many to choose from and all really good!!

Lots of info here: http://www.muinebeach.net/kitesurfing.htm

Cheers,

Robbie

ps yes lots of cheap beer, gave the old liver a nudge for sure!!!!

I recommend this place - it used to be called the Sailing Club. Great rooms, food, service, pool, location.

Kitesurfing conditions and crowds in Mui Ne are at best average. Downwinder is a good idea to get away from the main beach.

Watch what you eat outside the resort as the area's power is unreliable so the refrigeration is erratic. I got severe food poisoning I ever had there and ended up in hospital.

It will make you appreciate how good we have it in Oz!

Highly recommend C2Sky kiteboarding ( Jeff and LIz)

They are one of the longest operating schools and hire gear , great people .

Jeff can help with accomadation , travel from HoChi Min and accomodation of all levels and where to eat safely, and organise some trips up the coast if you want, will be getting busy in December.

Been there quiote a few times and the main Muine beach can get a bit busy but great resorts , cheap and generally nice people.

Stick to the 333 beer, the dirt cheap stuff you get in plastic bags or bring your own bottle has an awful vomity aftertaste/smell. You don't notice at first, seems ok. But once you smell it, can't unsmell.

Thanks to everyone for the great information and advice ( noted comments regarding beer) - really appreciate you taking time to me help out. Now to make some decisions. Happy kiting to everyone.
