It just keeps getting better every year.

My record of wind speed, measured before each session.
August 2013

Huge lagoon, knee deep, flat water.

Another crowded day in rough water!

Where's Cocos?
Windy enough for my 17m, and can I bring my mutant.
And my euro mates.
Thanks.

No good having a spot like that if you can't share it with 39 euros, 3 schools and a precession of wicked campers.

Think asylum seekers and boat people. Was all the rage recently in the news, may this year i think, took over most of the accommodation /facilities etc. Definitely an Australian controlled territory

Lizard.
Went there once on a dive trip before I was kiting. Light plane in from Cairns.
Interested to know all about it.
Best spots around the islands, Suitable wind directions, Best time of year.
Don't remember if there are any shops? Places to stay? I just got on a liveaboard boat and left
Can you post please? Maybe start a Lizard Is Travel post.

Lizard is ridiculously expensive to stay on, like $1200 a night minimum: www.lizardisland.com.au/stay

I don't think you're allowed to just fly there and pitch up a tent.

Get a job mate ...... then you can afford to go all these places you wish to free load on
How the hell do you pay for your kite gear?

hopeing to start kitesurf instructing this summer.

as far as paying for the gear goes i have no sense of self preservation so i jump into holes and jackhammer concrete alone. for a 10 month stint gives me enough savings to spend a year kiteing etc etc i do hate demo work so hopefully with some instructor tickets i can stretch it out a little longer / give me an income when abroad other then selling artifacts and rare wildlife hussleing the locals at pool.

what do you do in canberra? is there still that spiral slippery slide there? its how all you pollys get the kinks out of your crooked spines isnt it?

I used to work on lizard island. Thats where I learnt to kite. Amazing place . Ive since been on kiteboarding holidays to fiji and maui and Blue Lagoon on lizard island leaves them for dead. Crystal clear warm water. Constant trade winds. Its an expensive resort and being a national park you cant just go and set up camp anywhere...regardless of ' who owns y he high tide mark ' . There is a camp ground at watsons bay on the opposite end of the runway with toilets and campers can get a feed etc at the marlin bar when its open. Hinterland avaiation are the main company that do flights there. A few of my mates who kite are still there and are a top bunch of blokes. So the best way to do it is get a job there anf kite each day after work and all weekend like we used to or fork out the cash and go for a holiday because if I could swap my week in hawaii for a weekend on lizard id do it in a heartbeat.

The wind really cranks too. Rarely gets below 20 knots

Yep, Australia owns it. No Coles or Woolies. Duty free alcohol. Contact Zephyr Kite tours for accommodation. Best flat water kiting I've found.
