I just arrived back from cwc(cable in philippenes) after 8 days sitting on my ass most likely because of an screwed mc in my knee.
Can anyone offer advice and very good doctor ?
I see you are in VIC, don't go to a GP, go see a sports medicine doctor or a physiotherapist. There's a good bloke in north melbourne;
Errol St Spinal and Sports Physiotherapy
106A Errol St
North Melbourne
Ask for Neill
best thing to do is get an MRI and that should pretty much tell your doctor what's going on inside your knee... good luck and hope it gets better!
Go see a sports physio, (you may need a referral from a GP for this). Things like MRIs and surgery are expensive and there are lots of options before going down that path. A good physio will only recommend this after assessing and trying some different things.
So treat whats on the image hey? MRI's are expensive and you can't just go get an MRI, you need the appropriate referral, a good doc should be able to diagnose and treat without the need for such expensive equipment and if required refer for additional imaging.
Definately see a physio. Doc will most likely give you a generic "you've sprained it take some anti inflamitries and get some rest" diagnosis.
I got a beautiful Grade 3 tear through my MCL 9 weeks ago and I'm still out of action. Knees aren't worth cheaping out on. Invest in getting some good care.
I tore my mcl at the beginning of last December. Its only just starting to come good now but still hurts. Be prepared to rest it for a while. I had a MRI to see how severe the tear was so I knew wether I needed surgery or not. That was good as I had a clear idea of my injury and the timeframe it would take to heal.
The doctor I went to told me I had only sprained the ligament also but I had actually torn it.
Speedy recovery.
GP's are a complete waste of time in my experience... i still haven't found a good GP in this country that really impressed me... (no offence to any good GPs out there)... the senior GP i used to see (with good reputation) would prescribe antibiotics or anti-inflamatory drugs EACH time i would see him... it's absolutely ridiculous... I had some wrist injury few months ago, and he totally miss diagnosed it... went to see osteopath, afterwards and he fixed the issue in 2 sessions. Same for the knee... i injured my knee kite landboarding, and he said everything is ok the pain will go away in 6 months... i'm surprised he didn't say, pain will go away once you're dead. After i saw another GP, I ended up getting referral to knee specialist who finally found the issue and provided solutions (well couldn't avoid MIR in my case)... my advice, DO NOT EVEN TALK TO GPs, just demand that you are in ridiculous pain and you must get a referral to specialist. What i've learned is that no one around here cares for you or your health... if you don't take it in your own hands it ain't gonna happen... good luck
This is the way it works:
If you injure yourself and its not a broken bone (generally you will in hospital anyway if this happens), go to a physio. If after diagnosis and treatment its not improving the physio should refer you on. You may need to go to a GP for the specialist referral, but the notes from the physio will ensure you get a referral that suits your condition.
If you are sick, have some weird rash, etc etc, go to a GP they will prescribe you the appropriate treatment, refer you for further tests etc etc.
Go and see Neill, he has earned your treatment I reckon. At least you can be pretty certain he won't stooge you.
