Ok so I know manuals and things like that say don't touch lines under tension etc etc.
I am a obsessive line grabber. I grab the lines every time I relaunch the kite deflecting the bar is not fast enough for me. I grab the lines when kiting to make my kite move at extreme speed. I find it to be very useful.
I will even whack my line with my board when on the beach to correct it.
Having said that I like this
I saw it today where you can grab the rings and pull them instead of like I do. However I was thinking this could be some danger zone stuff. Given if your bar moved in a wrong way your kite is going to keeel you or at least require blowing some safety gear off to stop the madness.
I am just wondering has anybody modded their cabrinha bars to have similar capability of the best kite.
I think on that best bar, the centre line rings are for self landing, either of the side rings can be used for a flaging safety or depending on which kite you could use them to reverse launch the kite. Slngshot have had rings like that for years, i cant recall them having 2 for the centre lines but the bar i have in the shed has one and the two out side lines. It does give you a lot of safety options.
Looking at that bar the only below bar safety is hooked to the depower strap so when that hits the bar it is all the depower you will get and on most kites that wont be 100% so at least there is other options for when conditions get out of hand.
I wish that all sle and delta kites had them, they can be a good option to flag your kite if you get a bridle stuck around the wing tip and it keeps looping even when you have released the safety.
They are also good to use as a full flaging system if you start to feel uncomfortable on the water, you just take the leash off where you have attached it and hook it to the oh**** handle, then you can be sure the kite will 100% depower if needed and not relaunch.
is there any purpose to this thread.
if you like the handles put them on your bar and if you dont take them off
The problem I have with flagging onto a stearing line is that the line or leash could get caught around the bar when you have pulled your chicken loop release in an emergency, the kite will go into a spiral on that outside line. It has happenned. Front line flagging is safer for this reason.
Another thing I don't like about the system in the photo is the leash. There is a thread from a few years back where a guy pulled the final release (red tube labelled "BEST"). Inside is a "T" that unfolds as you release. As he pulled it, and the kite dissappeared down the bay, the "T" tore his hand open along his palm (ugly photo). BEST have not addressed this issue.
If you have one of these leashes I would suggest replacing it with a safer one from another supplier.
Also, good point from Spacemonkey, if you want your kite to turn quicker, get a longer bar.
My friend tried to self land using side line but he didn't have loops and just assumed that attaching the leash to the side line would also work. He didnt it in like 20 knots on a 12 m, well you know the rest. True story.
