The cost of living in Hawaii is a lot more expensive than on mainland US. For some reason they prevent cheap imports of anything from nearby Asia.

And that's not even accounting for the difficulties Australians would face with obtaining a residency visa and so on...

Yeah I was thinking Hawaii would be high up there, but Visa issues etc make it hard. What about Cocos Keiting Islands? No visa needed and looks like a real paradise to me!

Cocos is great but only over the winter months. I had 2 weeks there. Outside of winter it is stinking hot and no wind. Also, the isolation would eventually drive you crazy.
