Kitestock Program

Welcome to the Program of Events for Kitestock 2012 - below is a rough idea of what to expect.

All events shown below are subject to change depending on wind on the day. There will be an event briefing at breakfast each morning with times and updates as they happen. Therefore it is recommended that you attend the breakfast each day... no matter how sore your head is!

Please note, this is a provisional Program and may be amended depending on wind and weather conditions over the weekend.

Thursday 26th January 2012

9.30am - Registrations open. Get down to the Dongara/Denison Surf Life Saving Club to register & pick up your Kitestock 2012 meal vouchers and wrist band
Mid-Morning - Epic Downwinder safety briefing.
Course Racing (heat one) - brought to you by Airborne Kitesurfing. Something light & cruisy before the wind gets too crazy....
11.00am - Formal welcome and opening from the WAKSA President
12.30pm - Lunch - kick back and fuel up for the afternoon ahead
1.30pm - The Epic Downwinder (also known as "the Big Cowboy" in 2012) from Cliff Head to South Beach - this is the big deal. With nearly 30kms of downwind action, places are limited in 2012. Reserve your place early!! (this event is for experienced kiters only)
2.00pm - BWS Grom search begins - the team from BWS will be on the look out for a number of young groms for a special day's training programme.
2.30pm - Freestyle event briefing
3.00 - 5.00pm - "Come and Try" session - dedicated for Dongara school kids to show them the fun of flying a trainer kite.
Family beach cricket for the non-kiters.
3.00pm - Freestyle event briefing and heats (day one). Get ready to strut your stuff and impress the crowds with your tricks and moves!!
6.00 -9.00pm - The Priory Hotel - a variety of kite surfing movies will be shown to keep you entertained.
7.00pm - Australia Day BBQ Dinner at the Priory Hotel & and film night (late registrations til 7.30pm).

Friday 27th January

8.00 - 9.30am - Breakfast @ the Dongara/Denison SLSC.
9.00am - Daily briefing of events - make sure you're there to hear about the day's events.
9.30am - Wave event briefing - for all the surf kiters out there, a run through of the competition format, conditions and surf location - don't miss the briefing if you want to compete in the wave event!
10.00am - BWS Grom Search - yesterday's search becomes today's training day at a location near Dongara.
10.30am - Course racing (heat two)
Mid-Morning - Treasure Hunt (for the young and not so young as well)
12.30pm - Lunch - feed the kiting beast with lunch from the Little Starfish...
1.00pm - Surf heats -
2.00pm - Jump Clinic - want to improve your jump techniques? The crew from Kitesurf Warehouse will be running this clinic - tips & techniques to get you higher and higher....
3.00 - 5.00pm - "Come and Try" session - a session dedicated to Dongara locals and school students to come and see how much fun flying a trainer kite can be.
4.00pm - Sand castle competition (for the young and young at heart).
7.00pm - Dinner at the Priory Hotel.
9.00pm - Party time with Sambalicious DJ's.

Saturday 28th January

8.00am Breakfast at the SLSC
9.00am - Daily event briefing.
10.00am - BWS Wave Clinic - join big wave kiter Ben Wilson and his team for the ever popular wave riding clinic. Geared for all levels of wave riding, come and get advice and learn from one of the biggest names in kite surfing today.
10.30am - Big Air event briefing - find out the who/what/where of one of Kitestock's most popular events
11.00am - Course racing (final heats)
11.30am - Treasure hunt (kids only!!)
12.00noon - lunch from our friends at the Little Starfish.
12.30pm - Surf event finals. It's time to see if our sacrifices to Huey have paid off.
1.00pm - "The Little Cowboy" - shorter distance downwinder - event briefing
2.00pm - The Little Cowboy commences - heading north from South Beach this time - approximately 14km's.
4.00 - 6.00pm - Big Air comp. Time to boooost. An essential part of every kitesurfing event. Out the front of the Dongara SLSC for all to watch.
7.00pm - Dinner at The Priory Hotel - get on down to the Priory Hotel for dinner and refreshments. After a great feed, the Sambalicious band will get you trotting and galloping to loosen up any tired muscles.
8.00pm - Wild West Fancy Dress party - show us just how wild the west really is at the infamous Kitestock party.Prizes for the best dressed cowboy and/or cowgirl....


Sunday 29th January

9.30am - 11.00am - Sunday brunch @ the Dongara SLSC - a later start to the day so everyone has time to get over the madness of last night's Wild West fancy dress party.
11.00am - Presentation of prizes and awards for all kiters who out performed their peers over the weekend.
12.00noon - Kitestock closes - time to shut up shop for another year.
