Hi All, Heading to Portugal in mid to late Aug. Anyone got any good experiences on great places to go - best winds, waves, nightlife? Comparsons with Tarifa and South Spain. Any help appreciated.

Have been to a couple of places Windsurfing and Surfing in Portugal (prior to taking up kiting). If you want a direct comparison b between Tarifa and Portugal:
Tarifa has a LOT more wind! Portugal is more beautiful and has WAY BETTER surf.
The three places I have been to is Peniche area, Ericera and Sagress area. Peniche has good surf, a lot of surfers, is only 1h from Lisbon. There is O.K night life starting at 1am . There are spots to kite, but they are average (unless wave-kiting). Ericera has very good surf. From what I have seen not ideal to kite. If you have time go down to Sagress. It is one of my favourite places in Europe. 270° of cost line. Very good surf, not too much crowds. From what I have heard there is good wind in summer –not much wind when I was there in Sept.
Lisbon is nice and night life is very good, but don't even think about going out before 11pm.
Another spot is Guincho (wave kiting)…

I was in Portugal in August - September last year. I would highly recommend Ericeira, great spot for surfing. Upsetting to put on a wetsuit when it is 30+ degrees but the water is freezing! I didn't have a kite with me but I saw heaps of guys out. I ran out of time and didn't make it to Tarifa. If you get time trek up to san sebastian for the basque festival, well worth the drive.
Have a good trip.
