There was a new VW ad on TV last night that was a montage of all the models in VW's lineup. The Amarok was being used to pull a boat out of the water at a boat ramp. I can't imagine this (the lifesaving) ad being used in Australia... we wouldn't take it seriously!
Apparently VW took the class leader (Toyota Hilux), stripped it down to it's nuts and bolts and looked at what they could do to improve it. The rear box is also 20cm wider than the Hilux because it's designed to fit a quad bike for US surf rescue.
Only down side I see is that it's manual only. I don't mind manual but a large percentage of the US and Aus markets would not buy it as manual but they be because they are only releasing it in South America first and the rest of the world gets it later when they bring in an automatic.
Other oddity is the engine is only 2.0litre diesel but it's got twin turbos so it still produces 400nm of torque so it's not underpowered.
lol that advertisement is atrocious!
Watch next weeks episode when the fire rescue support ute helps a cabrinha rider get down from a tree.
