Hey folks
thinking of heading to Morocco in December for a family trip and see that coincidentally it's also a kite location.
has anyone any experience of kiting there that time of year?
thanks in advance

Been kiting in Morocco for many years, in fact 90% of my kiting is done there.
2 options basically : Essaouira (a 2 hr drive from Marrakech) or Dakhla (way down south on the Tropic of Cancer)
Essaouira is a fun town for the family, with 3 kiting spots :
- within the main bay at the far end away from town (mix of chop and shore dump, wind a bit gusty as it comes over the town)
-15km South at Sidi Kaouki beach (side-off waves)
- 15km north at Moulay (side-off waves). Those 2 wave spots can get great afternoon wind and waves. You need to be good, especially in Moulay.
But December is not a good time for wind in Essaouira, as it relies on thermals April - Oct. You might get lucky with an afternoon breeze.
Dakhla is amazing, its where the Sahara meets the Atlantic, in the middle of nowhere. Huge flat lagoon (twin tippers dream), a 5km speed spot, and world class point break wave spots. Its a World Cup location for both TT and wave. Its getting a bit busy with kiters but December is a quiet period, as wind stats are "down" to 50-60%. It rains about 5 minutes a year, and temp is a constant sunny +/-25 all year. I have taken my family a few times, they love it. But its just desert and sea and kites. You fly there from Agadir or Casablanca. No problem hiring locally, and all the 'hotel/camps' by the lagoon are set up just for kiting and other water sports.
It must be one of the best places in the world to learn : flat water, mostly shallow, constant wind, top security and teachers. My teenage kids were up and running in 4 days.
There are kiteable beaches all along the Atlantic coast. Currents can be strong, and not much local infrastructure outside those 2 main spots if you need to hire, or get into trouble.
If you are into surfing, that time of year can be huge in Morocco, especially in the world class spots just north of Agadir.
