Just seen that Lake Macquarie is now listed on the BOM NSW Coastal observation web page, but it won't let you bring up the history yet.
Anyone know where it is located on the Lake? Should be good for getting the wind observations for Squids and Swansea.
Laurie, is it going to get listed on Seabreeze for the observations below Newcastle?
Thanks Laurie .
Do you know where the wind station is located ? Lake mac is a big area , the next station south is Norah head and it always tells lies, [less for winter and more for summer] .
Not 100% sure .. yeah .. most of the meters have "issues" in one or more direction, as it's pretty challenging to find a perfect location that is safe from vandalism & theft, has clear wind on every point of the compass, has electricity/comms, and is actually available to be used on a long term basis...
Its more than just kiters that use the site around here - hang glider pilots, paraglider pilots , sailors , surfers, glider pilots, general aviation, etc etc Thanks laurie
I have sent an email off to the bom so hope to get a reply back in a couple of days re location
I did read a news item about 18 months ago from bom about this lake macquaire station ,but it had no clue as to the possible location.
I remember hearing Greg piper talking about it on the radio a few months back about how lake mac was about top hit the 'big time ' with its new BOM weather station .I am pretty sure he said it was around the Wangi area.
there is already a station at elebana (*private ) it is on weather underground

I'm pretty sure its on a guys roof at eleeebana .i had a look a cupla times when there were some westerlies and it seemed to be about 5 kts less than what seemed to be the average at squids
Just found out it's located near Cooranbong on the west side of the freeway in the TAFE college grounds. I don't think it will be too accurate, becasue it's a fair way inland for the seabreeze and will be slightly sheltered by the Watagan Mountains in a Westerly. Should see in the next couple of days what it's like.
