Long tether if he was. Updraft?

He doesn't seem to be traveling downwind so I think he's tethered.

Got to be tethered, maybe to a jetski?

This isn't a jump, tethered for sure. He hardly sent the kite and sheeted out. wasted 1:18 of my time.

I don't think he's tethered to anything as you can't see anything in front of him and it looks like he's travelling cross on shore so a boat or what ever would have to be in front of him? Maybe he's really overpowered of there's just an updraft somewhere.

clearly tethered. How is he holding his ground and not being blown downwind if he isn't tethered ?

There will be a long tether line to a jetski or boat way outa the frame

Yeah I'm the same, I watched it again and he looks behind and sideways and I couldn't see anything. You can also see his shadow and I only see his? I think he is just that over powered and on the limits of being the new top hat.

You can also see at the start the bombies are sticking out of the water so I don't think you would get a boat through there.

Just my 2c!

he would be tethered with a long line to another rider behind him.

- Can't be a normal jump as he's not traveling downwind at all

- Can't be tethered to a boat with the shallow reef

It's very simple, there is another person riding behind with a bar attached to his harness, has to be long lines with the height he's got.

I've done this before a few times (see pic below) but only on very short lines. All you do is connect all the lines behind the harness. With a big kite and high winds you can keep riding in the air for a long time.

whats to say it's not a jetski 100-200m away . we can't see what out the back of him. At that height it has to be something with some guts behind it .

two blokes in the first shot and if you look hard you can see the tether in the shadow on the reef.

I actually suggested a jet ski because of the shallow reef but yep it maybe or it maybe another kiter.
it doesn't have to have a lot of guts behind it though just a bit of weight.
With enough wind you could get a heap of height tethered to a stationary object.
He is moving in this vid though hence the suggestion of a jet ski or another kiter makes the most sense.

Also Brohan it doesn't have to be in front of him it is not towing him up just creating some resistance.

How is the hang time over 5 minutes when the whole video clip is 1 minutes 18 seconds?

Just saying...

PS - yes it's a tethered jump for sure

Obviously a tow-up but it got me thinking, this is sort of how a snowkite jump looks. Would there be some way to do a jump, hit the updraft from a nearby hill/mountain, and glide back to the water? Or would the wind always catch you and send you back downwind again...

yep it's called soaring, you would need strong on-shore winds and very steep dunes to create an updraft and lift.

Super dangerous, but it's been done before here in Oz. I managed to find the video: vk.com/video-18388581_145656493

Link no work.
In the video there the dunes are way too far away to cause an updraft over the water. 100% impossible cause.
If you watch paragliders, they have to stick very close to the hill to take advantage of the updraft. I've done some sailplane flying and can confirm that. As soon as you get further away from the hills you start sinking again. So tethered is only explanation.
I enjoyed the video anyway!

Didn't they say this is the shorter version?

Is this just to make us discuss the video and anticipate the release of the longer video and the "explanation"?
Like we care... Don't give them the oxygen..

Does someone have the link? Looking forward to it
