...but is it any fun, at all?
Just like a good fishing tale, theres always a similar "what my kite can handle tale"
I know that some people enjoy getting their colon irrigated as they skip ass first downwind? But why?
What is the max wind speed you can honestly kite in AND still have a good time?
I'll start the fishing tale....
75kg rider on a 7m bow in a consistent 29knots....anymore and its time to get out.....(or get a smaller kite)
59kg and probably max out around 27-28knots on my 6. Gusts a bit more, but they aren't enjoyable moments...
78 -80kg rider - 8m Switchblade - Max consistent wind 30knots for me . Awesome lift when boosting but starts to get a bit hairy when attemting to land your kite or kiting near the shore. A stuffed trick can quickly see you 50- 80m down wind
SB3 12m 105kg rider - 35knots is awesome for the boost - I love big floaty jumps in heaps of wind !
Now I need some wind to find out how much the SB IDS can handle....
75kg rider 9m rebel 32knots (gusty as) - FUN AS!
or
12m HiFi 22knots - Have been out in over 25knots but not fun, hard to stop
went out before a cyclone up north was 30 to 40 knots when I went out then a squall hit probably over 50 had to bail. kite was old 10m lift
105kg rider in 25-30knots with a TD2 14m, been in 40-45 with my 9m. Boosting correctly is near impossible without a wave or big chop because there is no way in hell I could hold an edge even on my 133... but when you do nail it... that feeling you get in your stomach as you fly up = best ever... then you notice how quickly you're traveling downwind
65 kg rider 7m 09 fuel
ive riden it in about 32 knots gusting 36. i was still kitelooping and having a great time
Your a bad man Jordy
85kg out in 30-35 knots on lift 8m, big jumps of the waves, crashed kite, broke batton. Jumped on friends 10m switchblade 2, 100m out to see hit a wave sent kite, didn't think I was coming down, traveled that fast downwind thought i was going to land on the beach, bailed just before the beach and got the shock of my life when i stood up in knee high water.
80Kg, 5M Best Grunt, 45Knots constant. The kite looked like it would fold before I would, poor thing.
50 kgs, biggest gust of 43 knots (super scary) but average of 30-35 knots, 6m switchblade. i was hanging on for my life but was great fun. i was the only one out as everyone else had to go in coz of the wind.
on this day, you could have kited without a kite!!!!
Then, at 1:21 pm on April 12, 1934, the extreme value of 231 mph out of the southeast was recorded. This would prove to be the highest natural surface wind velocity ever officially recorded by means of an anemometer, anywhere in the world.
200.7336330 knots!!!!!!! POWER
My kite can handle way more than my kahunas !!!
And other peoples' (smaller) kites keep me going after that !!!
Cheers Rhys for the try of the 9m !!! (Beers will be in the back next weekend)...
Yes, that's right, me on a 9m !!! And I reckon that would have done me for quite a few more knots than the 30 I reckon it was...
Wind is GOOD !!!
85Kg, bindings, 7m kite and 3 seasons experience. it didn't feel too windy but the graphs say 37knots in the fronts, gusts to 39. it was fun but that was the right gear for another 5 knots. my current kite can handle 50 knots, technically it doesn't exist in a tangible form but i hope to upgrade it tomorrow after i finish tee
75kg. 11m. 18 knots.
Any higher and I'm playing hold onto a mack truck or a stunt kite that if I take my hand off the bar for half a second the kite is up having lunch dancing in the clouds or is ramming itself into the drink.
