Been heading north in Queensland for the winter. So far the wind has been pretty non existent. Can anyone tell me how far I have to go to find those winter Queensland trades?
Ye been a crap June and start of july, hopefully tomorrow will bring a bit of joy, the highs/trades have not developed thanks to those lows that pop off on the south coast. Good for the surfers but generally holds up the wind.
Bro get in a boat and head out to reef. The fish have been going crazy!
Suppose to be blowing 20 tomorrow tho.
The trade winds your thinking about start at about townsville north. But yeh our highs have been non existent this winter
Keep going further North Just south of Cooktown there is a spot called Archer Point, you're pretty much guaranteed 24/7 winds up there. Otherwise Port Douglas usually gets decent winds at this time of year but sometimes it doesn't always reach the coast that well.
Why would you even bother kiting tradewinds? Just wait til there's some ridiculous cold fronts coming up the West Coast and come over here to scare yourself! Even today is pretty solid.
Bro the north qld trades are amazing. So reliable, consistent and strong! They are just as good as Brazil.
check out cape flattery. It's been like that every day since Easter
feck, wind hooked in at my homeeee, but I'm 3 hours south at Mackay for the week , wind would not have blown a candle out.
Yep. Cape flattery is awsome. And it gets even stronger and more consistent the further north you go, all the way up to cape York. The trades are amazing but in summer there is 100% no wind. But down the cost further you get the highs through winter and the thermal seabreeze in summer.
In other words, just book and go to this place - you won't regret it.

Lizard island is the same latitude as Cape Flattery with crystal clear water. Definitely worth the effort, it's a real adventure if you camp there. It is the most consistent wind I have ever had. From a sunrise session to sun set session. Love it and will try and go back every year.
Been off the grid for a bit. Thanks for the info. Got a kite in at Mackay. Bowen next and then on to Alva.
