Fresh from the NEWs room.

i (Matty) was kiting at 8pm on sunday evening it was screaming on me 7 metre starting to turn offshoreish an i was jus about to come in, noone else to be seen any where around on the beach an just i was heading in i see this bloke with two little kids next to him out in the middle of hells, he yells out help, i quickly ditch me board an dragged the kids an then the bloke in, (in 2 go's) he was absolutely stuffed his kids couldnt swim an he was keepin them a float, he said he was jus about to let one child go so i could save one of them. (thats no sh-t) he offerd me money an all, he made his kids both come up an thank me for saving their lives. i couldnt believe it.

If it was 7m conditions I recon they got blown off their feet and dragged across the ground scratching and screaming out to sea!

But Mat recons the small people lost their footing while swimming and started drifting out with the offshore flow.

True hero saving people in those conditions.

It was Mat or the Mermaids.

try to put it in one of the big newspapers e.g The Australian. Be good to get the general public on our side, another argument for not banning locations

Wow !, this rescue really got to me.

Having two kids myself the thought of letting one drown to save the other is unthinkable, that would be a decision that would haunt you for the rest of your life.

Well don Matty, you’re a true hero, you will have years of great Karma for this one. The beers on me if we ever meet

Another kiter saves the day, well done.

From the sounds of things, starting to look like kiters are saving more people than killing themselves........strange, but makes perfect sense. Ricki surely has some sorts of stats on this.

Perhaps the argument can soon be made to councils that swimming should be banned except if there are kiters around.

ouch! That sends shivers up my spine - what a choice to face. I don't know how anyone could ever forgive themselves in that man's situation.

No wonder he was grateful

Good work. That is certainly a story that belongs in a major paper

Hey Matty,

Thats unbelievable! Great Save. The father must have been dieing a thousand deaths with a decision like that one. Personally I couldn't do it, I couldn't make the decision.

Yup, Karma owes you BIG TIME!.

Congrats mate,

Well done mate - unbelievable stuff!!!! I also have 2 (very) small kids and the thought of being in that situation absolutely freaks me out.

What a piece of luck you were around - you deserve a medal, although nothing could ever repay what you did for that family.

You have given them the ultimate gift.

its amazing how timing is these kind of situations.

if you had decided to go in a bit earlier you might not have seem them. or if you decided to kite a bit longer in the offshore, you might have not seen them, or even if you did, been too late to save them.

makes you really wonder if there really is some kinda god or greater power out there who plans everything, or is it just plain luck.

im proud of what you did.

btw you said you ditched ur board. did you get it back?

That has truly choked me up - I would not even want to think about being in that situation with my kids. Makes me proud to be a kiter, well done mate.

Irrespective of the fact that any of us would have helped if there - you did, and this is one that will guarantee you have good karma following you and definitely get you in to have a beer with the big fella at the end of your days. I'll be buying you one if I ever get a chance to shake your hand.

I dare say that Dad would have given you anything if you had asked, not that you would have.

One thing he may do if he is willing though is to send a letter with his story to the Noosa Council with a plea not to ban kiting there. It is sure to have an influence and speaks for itself.......

Wow .. word travels .. just got this ...

"Good Morning I am writing on behalf of the Honours and Awards Committee at Royal Life Saving. I was alerted to an article this morning about an incident which took place off the coast of Geraldton. Matt Kalajzich has taken action to save the lives of three individuals and someone has requested that we follow up the story to find more information for a nomination for an award."

Sweet.
