My brother is hell bent on megaboosting during winter storms. He flies edges now but he wants a smaller C style kite that will suite this crazy endevour. He's on his own as far as I'm concerned but thought I'd ask some advice on the best kite for this insane almost weird focus of his....he reckons he can't sleep thinking about it!
He's nuts enough to do it, so please fire away.
If its height he wants I'm sure a 7 edge would get him pretty high in some of those fronts.
Or is it a loop thing?
I understand his obsession. It is an amazing thing going big and then getting the second boost when a massive gust comes through at the apex of n already huge boost, wondering how do i land from here!?? You can only get it on the big, big wind days. 7 edge will def get you there.

Yeh should have been more specific he wants to do the mega boost with mega loop thingy...I got no probs following him on the big boosts on my edge, but he wants to chuck in some serious loops on the way up and on the way down. Hence I was thinking a c type kite...
And yeh the biggest we have gone is a 9m edge on 28 to 33. That was just bordering on insanity. But I'm not going to pull the looping trigger on an edge and I'm trying to convince him not to as well!! Mad prick he is.
Nah he doesn't post or read the forum for that matter. He doesnt really dwelve into the technicalities of the sport either, keeps it simple. but that can be dangerous. Hence why I'm asking.
Simply I just want some options to look into. Obviously it needs t turn quick and turn c like. Around 7m.
As I mentioned when I sent this to you earlier in the week, 7m Edge gets this ^^^^^ high
He's not flown C's yet (or at least not regularly,) so why change, especially for the high winds... As you know, a 'C' boost is a different technique. IMO, from what I hear, 7m Edge.
The 7m Edge will be plenty fast, lofty & will loop round fast enough to satisfy his cravings. Plus, he'll still need to be right on his game, to keep his landings safe.
Wow Subculture, that is one impressive shot.Very casual, and VERY high! Thanks for throwing that up!
Cat was pumped pretty hard leading edge pinged when you flicked it . Think as it was gusty and launching a 90 kg guy the leading edge would fold in. Made for jerky and unsettling lift off. So grabbed my c4 9 and held on.
Cheers Simon yeh the 7m edge probably would make more sense as he loves the edges. Kept mentioning c kite configs maybe the 7m edge mmmmm. Would it still loop quick enough also the point about a C kite looping is you feel that pull all the way through. Can Lose the edges in the air at times during a loop due to the high aspect.
And I can't see the cat misbehaving as bad as most in high winds just experiencing the canopies stability and flying characteristics.
Eppo, C4 's loop we'll really smooth and constant pull. I just bought a fuel 7 for winter myself bit less refined but has that raw punch in the kidneys when looping that is also fun.
Fuel definately has more power but constantly flys heavy on the front lines compared to my C4 as do torches not as bad though.
Smooth loops C4, raw punch Fuel and torch somewhere I between IMO
Nick is that the 2013 C4. He probably would like to stay with ozone.
What about a small Airush razor?
Yeh the C4 7m is looking good. That way doesn't need a new bar.
Surfingboye and others how would a reo go honestly? Could he megaloop that baby. Ah that's what I should have called the post. Damn.
That way it could also serve as a wave kite option when the swell cranks.
Eppo
Height and looping in big winds is all about technic. You will get a more angry loop on a C kite, but if you drag the kite through a slower loop, any kite will send you flying.
PM me and I can hook up with your bro one day and run him through how to get the combination of Height and Loop right, by building up through a pregressive loop.
One condition, you film the event on my gear and we can post it on here.
The crashes will make the out takes as there will be a few.
I love a good windy day of madness. This years kitestock was great.
