Just wondering if anyone has seen this? There's a review in today's west screen guide on it. Sounds interesting, about a bunch guys now in their 50 and 60s from oz and kiwi land developing big wave surfing, kiting, snowboarding etc. bit of a history job by Clive Neeson.

Sounds worthy of going to see, it's on in Gero orana Sunday evening and Hoyt's in freo on Tuesday. I'd be interested if anyone has any background on this.

Cheers

Yeah, I've seen that. Its definitely worth a watch.

The pioneers or wind surfing, kiting, jet boats, bungee jumping. All the good stuff.

its awesome, there is some unreal hangliding in mountains too on sketchy as looking kit. Kiteboarding only gets a couple of minutes, real shame it wasn't kiwi or aussie kiters. b4 teh days of go pro so rare rare footage...

Just got home from the Geraldton screening.

Go and see it. Just go. Sensational film with some incredible historical footage as well as modern stuff -- a few clips of kiting as well.

As good as it gets for surfing, kiting, windsurfing, snowboarding genre of doco films -- and loads of fun to watch.

Most of it shot in NZ and AU.

Went and saw this movie last night, at 54 I reckon I was part of the younger crew!
Great action and stories, though just a little parsimonius maybe. I guess thats the point.

I didnt mind a some of the save the planet stuff, get the young crew involved in the outdoors, love it or lose it messages.
But I thought the hard sell on this dudes Nuclear Fusion plant as ths solution to all our problems was more marketing than movie.

Bit of an odd mixture but a lot of fun and glad I went.

NEW SCREENING DATE.

They've just announced a 2nd screening date for Geraldton. (next week)

Same Venue: Orana Cinemas, Marine Terrace
THURSDAY 15 MAY
AT 6:15PM

Call the cinema for bookings 08 9965 0568

Yeah, the segment on the Tokamak Nuclear Fusion reactor was a bit unexpected but hey, the whole point of the film is that there are very few unspoilt places left on the planet like the places we've enjoyed exploring over the past 50 years or so and if we don't find an alternative to our existing appetite for fossil fuels the remaining ones are going to be wrecked and the next generations won't have anywhere left to play in the next 50. Coolest thing that caught me a bit off-guard was that "Last Paradise" is actually referring mostly to NW WA!

Hey iandvnt,

The kiters were Kirsten Boese, Sky Solbach and myself. The kiting footage was shot back in the summer of 2004/2005. We did a one day shoot. Clive had been down in Maragrets and saw Sky ripping as he was way back then at Redgate Beach where most of that footage was shot. We met up a week or so later and went up to Lano and Wedge where he wanted some twin tip footage. The stuff he wanted was specific, close .... like really close, so big air was out. It was a fun sesh and he was happy with the results. Come to think of it, I think I may be the only Aussie in the fillum.

Clive is a friend from 10 or more years back and his movie has been a real work of passion, he was editing and mastering the footage for the best part of 6 years. He's a passionate kiter, windsurfer and surfer and has lived an extraordinary life. Everyone should go see the film. It's a beaut. The opening POV of surfing scene is amazing, puts you right in the barrel like you are really there. So much fantastic footage that you won't find anywhere else.

Yeah Daz, great to see you in there. Really quite a beautiful compilation of history in that film.

One of the unique things about this film too is that it's the only surf film I've seen that comes close to approximating the SOUND of what it's like to be out in BIG surf. (not that I've been out in stuff that's the size of some of the stuff in this footage) but most films just don't capture the thunderous sound of the power of the waves. You can just FEEL the sound. Lots of really stunning angles as well -- no idea how some of it was shot to get the perspective of some of the clips. Yeah, go see it.

A new screening just announced for this Thursday 15 May at 615 at the Orana Cinemas in Geraldton.

Cool. It's a great lesson to everyone to do what you want and develop ideas /make kite that you want - and have a lot of fun doing it... completely lost in most of todays advertorial movies. Down to the camera rigs too. Sports are so awesome pre heavily commercialized and at the stage of such progression.

Looking good, Can anyone comment on the harness he is wearing, is it just really loose or is it's design for toe side directional riding?
