G'Day guys. The word is out there is a new CORE kite released today. More information to follow available to order form the 12th of April.
Free!
Not really sure where it sits in their expanding line up though. It's like they have thrown an XR and GTS into a pot with a sprinkling of section DNA and the result is a kite that appears to sit between the two but doesn't seem to hit any of Core's key performance markers in their own comparisons.
With this range they now have 8 light wind kites alone and surely thats at the point of starting to confuse potential buyers? Is that R&D money better spent trying to get people actually buyinh their gear? Doesn't seem to be near as many core's around in Perth compared to edges etc and would new buyers choose a Free over the proven Xr ot GTS
Free, xr4 and gts3 are all all rounders that perform slightly better in one discipline.
Xr4 = free ride, old school.
Gts3= wakestyle
Free=wave
Then you have the section, pure wave, and impact pure wakestyle.
That's the way I understand it anyway. I'll be trying one next time I'm at soma bay, it won't suit my style though.
It looks like it's aimed at a similar market to the North Neo, keen to try it,
We have a 9m and 7m in transit from Germany, and we only found out about the kite and the fact Core were sending us demos yesterday.
Very secretive ze Germans.!

Hi Peeps,
This to me is the most interesting kite Core have released. In my eyes it looks like a lightweight, 3 strut, XR4. It almost looks a bit Delta like in the wingtips a bit reminiscent of the old and infamous Core GT.
If they keep the light bar pressure and have the properties of the old GT with the nimbleness of the GTS3 and drift of the Section, they'll have an absolute winner. All of the other kites from Core are quite discipline specific ie Impact=Freestyle, XR4=Boost/Race and freeride, GTS= Advanced freeride/freestyle, Section=wave. It truly is hard to get one kite to do it all, especially for the mass market and IMHO, this kite is targeted at the mass market.
I'm really looking forward to this kite both from a sales and riders perspective. My new kite????

This is the type of kite I was looking from Core, I will sure trade in my Pivot for one of these.

you a bender or summit, what about the bum cheeks

good luck, pretty sure its the old pommy Bedford van, ca from memory, very desirable bus for conversions or to pimp or restore
an old commer van would be easier to get hold of possibly, also makes a cool looking conversion

Pretty sure you said the same when the GTS3 came out. Core website still says GTS3: the 3 in 1 kite. You forgot they suggest it works in waves too.
Now the Free is the other new 3 in 1 kite? Do they have a competition running among two Marketing Managers?
Less C in that one. Agree it looks like the good old GTS, with a bit of the Riot XR (the first one) minus 2 struts.
So going back to when they were more successful as a company. Let's call it what it is, without Marketing spin and BS.
Whatever you do, turn offthe sound, and don't listen to the lyrics; "Pure adrenalin, right to the core", ect"
Yikes! Whose wrote this? Germans?
What about some remixed Kratfwerk, or some Krautrock?
Hi Gustyas,
The GTS3 does work in the waves but not as well as the Section. It's mostly performance freeride but if waves are a secondary consideration and you're more into boosting and looping, then it fits the bill. The Free doesn't look like the GTS. The GTS has square wingtips and little leading edge sweep. The Free has loads of sweep and pointed tips more like the older GT than anything else.
Core is still a successful company and has continued to sell well in most of the years we have had them. Having flown all incarnations of the Core kites since the Combat wave which preceded the GT, I can say the only real lemon was the Combat Wave.
We now have a 9m and 7m in store.
To give you an idea of the difference in shape, we have taken a pic of the 7m Free and the 6m Neo for shape comparison. BS away ....

The bumcheeks were ok, but did you know there are internet websites purely devoted to bumcheeks? I just thought the old car was the best bit.
Anyhow, didn't you find it a little hard to get a good look at his bumcheeks since they were covered with baggy board shorts for most of the vid?

I think it was obvious that it was a typo and I meant to say good old GT and first Riot XR. Thanks for the attention to detail
My main point is still the same. 3 in 1, doing it all cross over bla bla machine. Good at everything. Both GTS3 and now the Free. What marketing spin will the soon to be launched GTS4 get? Do it all machine for square tips lovers?

You don't have to ride or buy one gustya
I've been getting on loads of kites recently
As I'm looking for a new kite,
For me ( and that's me) the gts is possibly the preference so far below 10m2 and the wainmann boss above, maybe grab one from the guys and take it for a ride, nothing lost

Thanks, but no thanks. Owned a GTS2 and GTS3 as I was misguided by the marketing BS and I am doing a bit of everything, including "performance" freeride (whatever that is), bit of unhooking, waves, and certainly boosting and looping. I appreciate this kite may be for some. Some like it as they don't have a clue and did not have the luxury to compare it to a lot of kites. I spent quite a bit of money trying a lot of kites. And this one imho is not good at it all, it is so so in all categories. A true allrounder, does it all, just not too well
It is certainly not the most responsive, direct kite, and not the best booster. And trust me I know how to jump. It is ok in the waves. It is ok for mowing the lawn. The GTS2 was certainly more aggressive therefore a bit closer to a "performance" freerider.
Anyway horses for courses. I just don't like advertising BS. It is kite, a cross over kite with bit of C in it. That's it. Glad you enjoy the GTS3. Would be sad if all of us would fly the same kites. Just stating my personal opinion as this is an open forum, not a shop advertisement website
Core does a great job with their videos. After watching them it's easy to believe they have the best technology, best materials, best quality. I have no idea if any of it's true or not but the videos are well produced and convincing. By all accounts their kites are quite good. Now, are they as good as their videos suggest? I don't know but reckon it's open for debate.
Gustyas, I agree their offerings have become confusing and perhaps even redundant, and it sounds like many Core aficionados were found of the two kite-one color approach. Just wondering, what you are riding now?

Hey Cauncy,
what makes you say so? can you explain your thoughts on this one? I'm asking because I wanted to change my quiver and before the free I was thinking to get the GTS 8m for wave riding and when the winds are light getting an XR4 12m for mowing the lawn and boosting. why would you go for a wainman instead of an xr4?
Cheers.

I think it would look better if it was deflated, folded up into its bag and put behind the Neo...

Dude it's not a shops or brands problem you've chosen the wrong kite
This is why they have demos, that way you see if the kites for you or not
I found the gts the quickest kite at 9mtrs I've flown, needed to be flown activly, lacked a bit of grunt until it's upper or top end, the 3 settings on the le from super light to mid ( bar pressure ) gave me a more connected feel,
The new free kite as the shop mentioned is there to demo, so you don't make the wrong decision, look at nearly every brand , they have similar line ups of kites, ozone, north, naish, airush to name a few,
I agree it gives you the shidt when you get it wrong, I have

Ozone Enduro. Cab FX was the other candidate. Enduro is a bit more direct imo and the sweet spot is with the bar a tad closer to me than with the Cab. Otherwise both good cross over kites. I feel pulleys make kites less direct ie responsive.
Ozone produces simple kites and bars and they are almost humble in their advertisements. Works for me.

I know it was my mistake. But demoing alone does not always lead to a thorough assessment. Demos are often not available in the specific size I am after. And I can usually not keep them long enough to fly a few times in different conditions. So some if us may also be influenced by the manufacturers' or shop owners' advises. Hence I suggest they cut the horse crap down to facts. That's all. Not a big deal.
BTW being fast does not mean being direct, responsive ie an extension of your finger tips. And that is what I expect from a cross over "performance" kite.
Actionsportswa please post a review as soon as you get a go, im really interested to hear how they go

Get on one yourself , dm or the crew may be ,or be different riders or want different things from a kite,
If your retailer doesn't offer a demo , then you need a different retailer
IMHO if you sell a product then you should stand by that product

Now a 3 in one kite is how the enduro is marketed dude,
Looking at the kite it's interchangeable ,
So if you want to do a bit of all during a session,
What setting do you put it on?
Is it a do it all kite or is it a back to the beach and change ?
And this is why I asked about the free
For me I prefer something like a bandit, / something that's plug and play
Also you'll not find a kite brand or any other product that doesn't talk itself positive,
