I love the Ozone Edge and V9 hits barriers at warp speed like no other Edge before...
Ive had some memorable boosting sessions ... crisp performance and many light wind sessions.
They are known fot Great boosting fast speed great upwind mindblowing windrange ..yada yada.
But i feel im looking for more.
I have owned a lot of Nitros but never liked much about them except for their looping and boosting at times.
They feel heavy and unrefined but on the upside they are bombproof.
The Edge takes some serious skill to backroll kiteloop hand drag transition in 11m and above mainly due to a very high aspect and large loop unless pulled very hard.
Downloops on jumps can be a bit slow on 11m and 13m.
Im at home with it but feel at times it sits to close to the edge of the window when looping
More so in the 11m and 13m sizes.
Anything under 11m in the Edge V9 range loops fast and im happy with that.
Im looking for a kite that performs well boosting and looping .... in around an 11m.
Im leaning Towards North Rebel.
AKA Duotone as its newly renamed .
I know i wont get rid of my Edge addiction but im looking for a better looping 11m kite i think.
Any input appreciated.
Enduro V2
freestyle setting on front bridal fast turning on steering
pigtails on shorter backline setting
Imho this give a very constant crisp direct feel, quick turning,
very pivotal loops ,smooth feel not bad ass, I feel like I'm jumping a fair bit higher than on the edges with respectable hangtime , the freeride setting sacrifices a bit of height with more float, in decent wind it feel like it constantly wants to be sent, I'm on a 8/10 quiver
not a massive lover of kites over 10 mtrs I've heard good things about the 12 so might be tempted, certainly give one a demo and don't forget the settings as it makes the kite feel and perform totally different I've found, good option to have if mixing it and takes a couple of seconds to swap
Would be nice to have Fantasy Island wind .....
Unlike the mid winter west frontals atm. You can only safely try so much.
Many experienced kiters come to the lake and get smashed.
Or choose not to go out over 30- 35knts.
Boosting big on ankle to knee deep water is a high wrisk.
Like today watching kiters at the lake in 40 knts none jumping over 8-10m.
Plenty of crashes and but slides great entertainment and fun to watch their limits.
Only person ive seen jump over 10m on the lake is Layne from kitepower.... who holds the flat water boost record here.
18m on flat water in 43 knts
8m kite.
2m shy of the length of his lines.
Was awesome to watch.
Im happy with my kiting journey.

It is cheaper and more beneficial to improve your technique rather than buy a new kite....
Have to agree with sav here, it's not the kite!
I have owned the last four versions of the edge (11m) and agree that more bar input is required on the V9 compared to older versions, took me a little while to get it dialled in, but it is worth it. I constantly kite in ankle to knee deep water doing the tricks that u mentioned and more, confident in the fact that the edge will provide a buttery soft landing EVERYTIME!
The edge is not a plug and play kite....refine your technique
BTW, there is a young dude at my local that has a 2011 Crossbow 11m that can out boost anyone i've seen....
Yes all true about improving technique.
If you can be fcked and are willing to take the beatings that are required.
Or you can opt for a slightly less high performance kite with more plug and play tendancies and get on with it.
You will undoubtably miss the edge (there's no other kite quite like it, I had massive edge withdrawals)
.... but beyond that is some easier more enjoyable kiting that in the end actually allows you to take on a greater risk profile BECAUSE it has less performance built in ... and sits further back in the window.
'Doing tricks in ankle to knee deep water all the time'
In 5 years of kiting my chicken loop failed twice and centre line broke once mid jump. I heard of new lines breaking occasionally. Get really anxious observing some doing dead-man trick on shallows. Not a good idea....
Eppos the first one to say it....he knows the deal.
A kite that sits deeper in the window .....
Nitros do this well and are more forgiving ... they dont hunt for the edge of the window ..ive had quite a few but they also feel like your flying an Aldi bag on the end of your lines.
Ill keep my v9 edge quiver ....
And buy 1 kite with slightly lower aspect ratio to play with.
The edge has a highly refined feel. So "DID" the rebel. never felt that in the nitros... so I hear ya. But again I've seen guys rip it up on the nitro. you eventually make work what you have.
But the guys I ride with all felt that refinement through the XR. First kite in a long time (years in fact) where we ALL went ... "mmmmm that could be an option". It kind of sat in between the rebel and the evo.
anyhow .... each to their own and good luck.
Eppo... we get garbage wind here.
North east is like a luxury and your having fun with more or less consistant wind .
Progression is acheiveable.
When doing an 8m jump downloop transition in this wind it happens as planned.
Then you get a lot of west garbage wind....
Kind of stuff where you dont even try to do what you know because the sucess ratio goes south.
Kind of wind that likes to drop you from a good height and put you on your ass in shallow water.....gusty garbage 5 knts to 45 knts whirly wind crap daggers of gusts.
Its doesnt matter who you are or how good you think you can be in this type of wind...
But we kite it because thats what we get here.
There is a fair share of decent wests all though no megalooping going on at all.
The consistant wind is a real treat.
The core sounds like it could fit the bill and gives me an option to check out..cheers
I respect what the edge does and does not do.
I am like most kiters constantly progressing .
Thanks for your input mate .
