This looks great - just use an old phone or buy a throw away - if you dont want to use your phone..

The greatest thing about kite-surfing is that nobody can call you though?
not giving a f*ck about what other people think
tbh i think this is going backward. they should invest in a sensor design and follow suit with the rest. cheap way of doing it i guess.
All its doing is reading output data from gps & an accelerometer.
Woo is way overpriced. Set the market price at $150 where it should be. Well lets face it thats what its probably sold to the distrbutors at...

I think I disagree about going backwards. Phone manufacturers have economy of scale discounts for the sensor boards so they should be able to make the hardware cheaper.
The problem for woo is covering their costs for infrastructure (servers etc) for years to come. Without a subscription service you aren't getting any recurring revenue. PIQ seems to piggyback on the back of the golf sensor so probably gets away with it. Xensr looked to go to smartwatch sensors but look to have gone bust trying to support the warranty claims on the hardware.
By giving away the software free, you can get rid of the hardware risk. I suspect to be viable, going ad-supported or $2 a year would cover the server costs of running the app.
Oh they offer a mount? Could be interesting...
So now instead of losing a $200 Woo, we could be losing our $2,000 phones?
Having an objective measuring device of any sort means I would have to immediately stop telling people about my sick "60 foot airs".
It would be like a fisherman having a GoPro on his head all the time filming all the huge coral trouts (small toadfish) that got away.

Fair point about the subscription service. Maybe thats a better way to run it. Free device at $10 per month then $8 in the second year and reducing to $5 after the 2 year. When the device dies (out of warranty) or lost it you need to pay a replacement fee.
I am just a bit curious with using the phone as they will need to design various different sized device covers? Or i guess they are leaving that up to us? could be a bit dificult to find it espeically in Australia.
Apparently it uses a Universal clear box. You then put your phone in a waterproof bag, that you lock in the box..
If your in trouble, it could be handy..
Nah mate. Not Ego. Its gamifying progression.
Used all over the place for learning. Want to learn a new language, chances are you'll try something like Duolingo. Same thing - its a game to help keep you interested in the ultimate goal and to help you focus. I've got a PIQ and try to ride with it on most of the time even though my goal at the moment is extending the length of my darkslides. All of these sensors are just tools to help with Achievement Motivation. Do you reckon track and field athletes would continue to keep training if their events weren't timed or measured? It would be like:
'Well done you ran really fast there over 100m. I'm sure it felt much faster than last time' or 'wow you through that javelin a long way again today but possibly not quite as far as last month - its a bit hazy though as it landed on a different part of the field'
Just go with it and feel happy for people who are getting better and have a measurable way of seeing progress. Remember the answer to the question 'Did you see that jump I did?' is ALWAYS 'Yes mate. It was 'king massive, I thought you were going to land on the beach'
Is there no end to your egos guys?
You might understand, if you could get your fins out of the water...
