Is kiting considered self isolation? Ticks boxes of social distance and exercise. I am lucky to be not far from the water as well. Thoughts?
My local gets pretty quiet this time of the year, so it's easy to self isolate. I went out for a foil yesterday on my own, two people had been out earlier, and as I was leaving someone else was rocking up for their own bit of self isolation on the water. Unless we are told it is illegal, (they are currently saying that going out for a walk or exercising for an hour or so is okay. It's essential to keep the body, mind, and spirit fit. These certainly are unprecedented times.
I was one of the two people who was out self isolating before dafish turned up.
Myself and the other self isolator put on our self isolation suits and took our specialised isolation devices, one bit goes on strings in the air and the other you stick in the water, and we isolated our brains out in an isolated, (for this time of the year), nor easter
Such was the isolation on that isolated beach, there was an isolation gap of approx. 100m between isolated individuals.
Fortunately after such isolation I was able to find an isolated latte and the isolation session was complete.
Swan River on Monday, a few near Point Walter but else where - not a soul. Today there was two kiters out including myself.
In NZ there is no driving to do exercise, You can walk/cycle around your "block".
If you magically live next to the beach, going in the water is frowned upon as that could lead to a possibility of emergency services being called on.
So short answer. All watersports have been canceled in NZ.
But I can still ride my mountain bike!

Excellent idea no chance of an injury mountain bike riding, especially as you seem to be a conservative guy

I mtb at a lot higher level than I kitesurf. Been riding Mtb's since before kitesurfing was invented.
So..... I can back off the crazy level and do the equivalent to mowing the lawn kiting on the bike and can literally ride for years without crashing.
But I agree my normal riding is more dangerous than kitesurfing.
Honestly folks, Going down to your local for a surf or kite is totally different to being tackled in a AFL or Rugby league game just keep social distancing. There is absolutely no social contact, I don't have beers with mates any more after a sess and they are pissed that I don't offer them a coffee from my machine in the morning (yes I am a nerd I have a coffee machine in my ute and a fridge). There is more social contact with walking the dog around the block. Even with your dog off lead people pat your dog away from you (Yes that is transmission)... Take away shops are not cleaning their surfaces down after every customer...
If they really want to get on top of it LOCK IT DOWN.... Bogans my way will just ignore the cops go camping and dirt bike riding... We are just trying to dull the curve off the majority of us will get it. The bad thing is we are coming into flu season and the northern hemisphere is coming out of it...
thanks Plummet (again). just read your post on Kite forums. interestingly my mate is a better mtber than kiter did a jump but missed the landing and knocked himself out! to be fair it was on a fast dedicated single track in a bike park
.
Yes I was gutted to hear. Even though I live close enough to the beach to walk down for a nice SUP or kite, I'm not allowed in case I get injured.
Stink.
