Tips for going upwind

Im guessing the same sortof theory applies to bodydragging, how if you try and point too far upwind you end up just being pulled crosswind side on, coz u just come straight outof the water and can't 'edge' enough and therefore have to try and point less upwind at a larger angle to actually travel fowards... Does that make sense anyone? Coz I had that problem today when I doing some bodydragging :S or maybe it was just the current that was too strong.
